GENERAL SUMMARY
The Accessibility & Inclusion Facilitator is responsible for guiding learner-centered experiences both on zoo grounds and in virtual programs for guests with disabilities. Under the direction of the Hart Prins Fund Accessibility & Inclusion Manager, this individual will provide meaningful experiences that connect guests to wildlife. Additionally, this individual may work with other members of the Learning Department to facilitate programs.
This is a part-time position. Hours are available on an as-needed basis and are not consistent throughout the year. Candidates must be available on weekends and evenings.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Independently or collaboratively facilitate programs, such as Sensory-Friendly Mornings, Memory Enrichment, customized group visits, and more.
- Provide flexible accessibility for a wide range of disabilities and supports guests during programs.
- Set up and break down all materials for programs which they facilitate.
- Work with guests of all age levels and abilities.
- Manage groups on zoo grounds during busy visitation periods.
- Support the Hart Prins Fund Accessibility & Inclusion Manager during programs.
- Independently facilitate programs.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusion space for learning.
- Respond to variation in learning and communication styles.
- Perform various tasks to support the successful implementation of Learning programs as needed. This may include supporting other Learning programs or assisting with materials management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to work with groups on zoo grounds and in a virtual environment.
- Ability to interact comfortably with culturally and linguistically diverse guests.
- Ability to work in a team and problem solve to ensure timely completion of all projects and programs.
- Ability to interact courteously and respectfully with supervisors, fellow employees, volunteers, zoo visitors and general public.
- Ability to expect variation in learning, communication, and interactions with guests and pivot to support them in the moment.
- Have reliable transportation.
- Courteous, friendly demeanor.
- Dependable and punctual.
- American Sign Language fluency is a plus.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Preferred candidates will have high school degree or GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Experience working with people who have disabilities.
- Experience planning events or programs for groups of primarily people with disabilities.
- Experience with informal and/or formal education a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Capable of moving across zoo grounds, remaining stationary for long periods of time, and working in a variety of weather conditions.
- Must be able to move equipment on a rolling cart or in wagon.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Available to work weekends, evenings, and special events which may occur outside of regular work schedule.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Proof of vaccination for COVID-19 is required
Salary; $18.00/hr
