Linden Hall is a prestigious and academically renowned secondary school for girls dedicated to providing a world-class education. The Director of Residential Life plays a pivotal role in ensuring a safe, nurturing, and engaging living environment for our boarding students.

Position Overview:

The Director of Residential Life is responsible for the overall management and leadership of the school's residential life program. This includes oversight of the dorms, supervision of residential staff, and creating an inclusive and supportive community where our students can thrive both academically and personally. The Director of Residential Life serves as a key member of the school's leadership team and plays a crucial role in shaping the student experience.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Supervision:

- Lead and manage a team of residential staff, including student resident assistants and dorm parents, fostering a collaborative and supportive atmosphere

- Create, schedule and oversee the afternoon, evening and weekend programming

- Serve as a mentor and role model to students, promoting a positive and inclusive residential culture

- Train and supervise all Residential Life staff, including holding regular staff meetings

- Train residential life and security staff

- Serve on school committees and task forces as needed

2. Student Well-being:

- Ensure the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of boarding students.

- Establish a positive boarder culture where equality and inclusion are encouraged and boarders learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and show compassion for others

- Implement and enforce school policies and procedures related to residential life

- Respond to student concerns and emergencies, providing guidance and support as needed.

- Support boarding students and parents by being available to address concerns, answer questions, and refer boarding students and parents to other appropriate School personnel

3. Community Building:

- Foster a sense of community and belonging among boarding students.

- Ensure the safety and academic, social and emotional well-being of the boarders at all times, and create/provide a warm, positive community atmosphere in the residence halls and on campus

- Organize and oversee activities, events, and programs that promote social, cultural, and personal growth.

- Encourage open communication and conflict resolution among residents.

4. Facilities/ Transportation Management:

- Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of boarding facilities.

- Collaborate with the facilities team to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment.

- Address any maintenance issues promptly and efficiently

- Coordinate transportation with the appropriate members of the administration

5. Collaboration:

- Collaborate with academic faculty, school counselors, and other departments to provide a holistic student experience.

- Function as a liaison between residential life and the school's administration.

6. Budget Management:

- Manage the budget for residential life, ensuring responsible use of resources.

- Plan and allocate funds for residential programs and initiatives.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

- Several years of experience in residential life, preferably in a boarding school or college environment.

- Strong leadership and management skills.

- Dedicated, responsive and positive work ethic.

- Ability to work on a high functioning team, as well as independently

- Extraordinary organizational skills and attention to detail

- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution abilities.

- Experience scheduling, event management, and supervision of staff

- A commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for students.

- Familiarity with the unique needs and challenges of adolescent girls in a boarding school setting

- Personality and disposition that are characterized by collaboration, collegiality, deliberation, openness, acceptance of diversity in all its meanings, and a desire to provide an important foundation for young women to compete in a dynamic world

The schedule for the position is as follows:

Monday - Friday, afternoon into the evening hours and some weekends when needed

Pay: $60,000.00 per year
