LinQuest is seeking a Satellite Systems Engineer in San Diego, CA. The primary function will support the Space Systems Command (SSC) Narrowband Satellite Communications (CGN)/Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) contract. The candidate will support MUOS Baseline Space assisting the 10th Space Operations Squadron (10 SOPS) with operations and maintenance of the MUOS constellation and monitoring of constellation health. The Systems Engineer must have a good understanding of satellite interfaces to RF ground stations, spacecraft operations, and user terminals.
Responsibilities:
Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:
- A Systems Engineer:
- Allocation of requirements.
- Troubleshoot issues involving multiple components (ground-space-users).
- Coordinate with other CGN branches, segment prime contractors and others to help troubleshoot issues. The candidate must know satellite system organizational structures. This implies an understanding of organizational structures of the groups that make up the operational environment – Ground, Space and User interface groups.
- Work with other analysts to identify problems, find ways to troubleshoot, and implement corrective actions. - Work on satellites end-to-end operations (both user side and gateway).
- Work with spacecraft subsystems:- Thermal
- Power
- TT&C
- Propulsion
- Payloads
- Orbit determination and understanding of maneuver strategies.
- Attitude controls - Work with in-orbit day-to-day operations:
- Operations software and hardware interfaces to the satellites.
- Procedures for operating the satellites.
Qualifications:
- Minimum five (5) years of space-related experience involving satellite systems.
- Understanding of A2100 bus design and architecture is desired.
- Experience with orbital analysis tools including Mission Analysis Software (MAS), LM STARS (Lockheed Martin telemetry system), Peraton OS/COMET Telemetry, Tracking, and Control (TT&C) platform, and Ansys Systems Tool Kit (STK) is highly preferred.
- Operations background to include, in-depth understanding of satellite TT&C operations, payload operations, users, and Network Management Facilities.
- A thorough understanding of spacecraft, space operations and ground interfaces.
- Strong communication skills, written and oral.
- Self-starter with a strong sense of personal responsibility.
- Strong understanding of satellite subsystems, how they interplay, how to troubleshoot issues with subject matter experts.
- A system engineering mindset that allows the person to have a global view of problems and solution sets.
- Understanding of programmatic metrics – cost, schedule and other metrics that may be used to follow ongoing task orders and help implement new task orders.
- Ability to develop reports and brief the senior CGN team. This requires the ability to extract highly technical information and boil it down to a top-level summary for senior management.
- Position requires ability to access classified network systems (e.g., SIPRNet and JWICS) at DoD or approved Contractor facilities at least several times per week.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in an mechanical or aerospace engineering, space operations or Physics; or equivalent technical field.
Clearance Requirements:
- Active DoD Secret clearance to start.
- Top Secret with SCI Eligibility, (Desired).
- U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
Travel Requirements:
- Must live within single day driving distance (<200 miles) of Point Mugu (Ventura County), CA to be able to provide on-site troubleshooting/support at the operations squadron as frequently as required by the program. Occasional attendance is required at meetings or other events at the program office on Naval Base Point Loma, Old Town Campus in San Diego, CA. Travel to other sites could be required infrequently. Travel reimbursement will be provided.
Compensation:
- Starting salary ranges from $140,000 to $170,000 depending on relevant experience and qualifications.
