Primary Responsibilities
Lipscomb University’s Vice President of IT serves as the University’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) and will lead the institution’s efforts to support and promote the strategic use of information technology that advances the overall mission of the institution. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the CIO will lead and manage the Information Technology division, including academic and administrative computing, networking, information security, support services, classroom technology, programming services, and telecommunications.
The CIO serves as the principal technology leader for the institution, providing the vision and leadership for developing and implementing university-wide information technology strategies and initiatives. The position scope is inclusive of all university divisions and campuses, including Lipscomb University, Lipscomb Academy and Lipscomb’s Downtown Nashville location, known as Spark. This necessitates a high level of familiarity with the various constituents and a commitment to meeting the diverse information and communications needs that exist across all university and academy business units.
The CIO is responsible for anticipating and maintaining a vision for the future technology needs at Lipscomb University, and for recommending strategies, priorities, and projects that will best achieve the institution’s strategic goals and objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- The minimum education qualification is a bachelor’s degree in a technology-related field, Business Administration, or other related fields of study.
- Significant relevant IT work experience with increasing responsibility in both scope and duties.
- Significant past professional experience in higher education preferred.
- Experience in an Anthology ERP environment preferred.
- Extensive experience with IT strategic planning, budgeting, and personnel management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the ways and methods by which technology supports the teaching-learning environment.
- Significant experience in all aspects of information technology planning, development, and implementation, including but not limited to enterprise resource planning, systems architecture, telecommunications, database administration, and security and compliance issues.
- Broad technical knowledge and skills, with the ability to demonstrate this thorough knowledge and understanding of current computing, telecommunications, and emerging technologies.
- Practical experience with recent developments in campus technology, effective oral and written communication capabilities, and excellent presentation skills.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrated experience and skill in negotiating with vendors, contractors, and others.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and leadership team members.
- Demonstrated customer service orientation with a high level of energy and an appreciation for complex challenges and a fast-paced environment.

Descriptions of Tasks to be Performed
- Responsible for developing collaboration among the institution’s academic and administrative constituents to advance the institution’s mission through the effective use of technology.
- Provide leadership in the development of a strategic direction for information technology services, gauging and anticipating the diverse needs of the institution’s constituents.
- Monitoring trends and innovations in the industry to identify and assess opportunities for innovation through technology and provide actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
- Ensure IT data security, risk management, disaster recovery and business continuity planning processes are in place and are reviewed regularly for currency and adequacy.
- Recruit, develop and organize technology talent that is structured to efficiently deliver customer-focused services across the organization
- Develop, implement, and oversee strategic technology policies throughout the institution;
- Work with the student body and student life staff to advance the student experience with creative technology integration in areas where students live, work, and play.
- Provide leadership, guidance and supervision to direct reports
- Participate in the annual budget process for institutional technology needs to develop an annual IT operational and capital budget,
- Develop and maintain the institution’s technology addendum to the Lipscomb 360 strategic plan
- Maintain strong vendor relationships and manage contract and service level agreements
- Establish and/or collaborate with direct reports to establish IT department goals, objectives and operating procedures
- Develop and maintain an IT organizational structure designed to meet institutional needs Approve, prioritize and control the IT project demands while negotiating prioritization and timelines with constituents
- Manage the annual IT personnel evaluation process
- Ensure the IT organization has the means and opportunity for development and growth within each discipline
- Ensure security of the IT systems along with maintaining compliance with the laws and regulations by which Lipscomb is governed
- Cultivate and manage strategic relationships with both internal and external constituents
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for Event Technical Services with a focus on delivering high quality services on a cost effective basis
- Proactively manage the mix of internal and external resources to ensure that event technical services are delivered with quality and timeliness,
- Perform other duties and functions as assigned.
