POSITION SUMMARY: The Bag Machine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the bag lines to safely deliver the highest quality products at the best efficiency and lowest scrap possible through the use of effective manufacturing methods.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Follow all Key Operating Procedures, including but not limited to:
- Company and facility Policies
- Safety – LTCT; use of proper PPE; adherence to all applicable safety rules
- Quality – PQCT, Bag Specifications, Testing Frequencies and Procedures
- SOPs – Methods for performing work
- SSOP/Good Housekeeping standards (keep machines and area sanitized and clean)
- Good Manufacturing Practices
- Food/Safety Security
- HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point)
- Responsible for scrap, efficiency, and product quality
- Set up and operate bag machines and supporting equipment according to product specifications and as scheduled by management in a timely manner
- Lifting approximately 30# boxes of materials (spouts/caps) to load into machine.
- Pushing and pulling 80 to 90# rolls of film from lift to load on machine.
- Perform all normal running adjustments to the equipment as required to produce the product to specification; record all changes.
- Do routine machine maintenance and troubleshooting, in case of failure and make repairs as directed, advise management of major problems, and aid the maintenance personnel as required for major maintenance
- Responsible for printing and supplying correct parts label to the inspector/packer
- Make tape splices at the bag machine packing station to the bags where needed (Inspector/Packer applies splice tape to helical bags and at the two out machines)
- Schedule the supply of all raw materials, packaging materials, and supplies to the machine from the warehouse
- Conserve raw materials and supplies
- Do routine machine maintenance and troubleshooting, in case of failure and make repairs as directed, advise management of major problems, and aid the maintenance personnel as required for major maintenance
- Responsible for doing scheduled PM work to machine.
- Ensure that quality standards are upheld and that any suspect or defective product is reported to the Shift Leader to be appropriately destroyed or placed on hold for the Quality Facilitator’s review and decision
- Relieve inspector/packers and other members of the production team for breaks or as needed
- Work as a valuable team member throughout the production room to accomplish the business goals:
- Help operators as needed (including cleaning machines and PM’s)
- Help other Inspector/Packers if needed when machine is down
- Learn to pack all bag specifications and at all machines
- Assist and work closely with Quality, Maintenance, and Technical resources to ensure that issues are being addressed to optimize the performance of the line.
- Communicate in a positive and respectful manner to resolve all issues
- Complete all documentation accurately
- Ask for help when the need arises
- Assist in the training of other personnel in proper maintenance, operation and set-up of equipment according to approved company procedures.

- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
