The Manager, Accounting role will encompass a variety of responsibilities in support of the Director, Finance and department including, but not limited to, leading components of the month/quarter/year-end financial close procedures, monthly account reconciliations, audits, financial reporting, and other daily operations. In addition, this position will be a key contributor in helping Sierra Auction grow its full-service sales business, a key strategic initiative for the overall GovDeals segment.

General Summary

Responsibilities
- Manages the day-to-day accounting operations, including, but not limited to general ledger maintenance, settlements, revenue recognition, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and intercompany transactions
- Drives the monthly close process and the preparation of the financial reporting deliverables according to schedule. Including reviewing and approving journal entries, closing documents, reconciliations and performing financial statement reviews
- Support President & FP&A with budgeting, financial planning and analysis, quarterly updates to financial forecasts, trends, and ad hoc analysis; monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget and forecast and preparation for management reviews
- Ensure accuracy of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and company policies
- Maintain and monitor a strong internal control environment, structure and processes, including writing and enforcing controls and policies as assigned
- Assist in documentation and monitoring of SOX requirements. Support internal/external auditors in quarterly reviews, annual audits and SOX testing
- Research/resolve complex accounting situations, one-offs and exceptions
- Adhere to all weekly and monthly accounting deadlines
- Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned
- Supervise 3 members of the Finance team and provide training and supervision as necessary
- Ensure properly trained backups are available for key roles and duties
- Coach and mentor members of the accounting team with their respective duties, conduct performance evaluations and goal tracking for direct reports
- Maintain a succession plan for key positions
Education/ Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher required, preferably in accounting or finance
- 3 years accrual basis accounting experience required
- 3 years of supervisory experience
- Experience with large-scale ERP systems, Oracle preferred
- Public accounting experience and/or a CPA license a plus
- Strong analytical, attention to detail and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use data to determine root causes and advise courses of action
- Ability to provide clear and concise analysis to management
- Excellent skills with MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while meeting strict deadlines
- Ability to interact with employees and clients in a professional manner
- Strong coaching skills used to continually enhance the skills of direct reports
- Strong desire to collaborate with IT to use technology to drive process improvements
- A natural curiosity to understand the business, its growth and evolution, and how finance can continue to provide high quality business support
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
- Remote- Ideal candidate must have home office space and access to high-speed internet
- Business hours PST
- The ability to sit and perform terminal/computer work for lengthy periods is expected. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
