About the Position:
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration; 4-5 years of multi-state payroll and payroll accounting experience; skilled in Microsoft Excel; ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and composure; strict attention to detail; excellent verbal and written communication techniques; superb organizational skills; a positive attitude along with professional demeanor and willingness to learn.
The position will serve as a member of the accounting team preparing and processing payroll for 1,000 team members. It will also be pivotal in fostering collaboration across functional areas, including HR, IT, Operations, and other groups, regarding payroll support and duties.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assists the Sr. Payroll Accountant in processing and supporting the Workday Payroll and Time Tracking systems.
- Responsible for payroll preparation/processing, tax reporting, benefits-records administration, and payroll systems maintenance.
- Processing of bi-weekly US payroll and posting into the various general ledger accounts.
- Processing of weekly international consultant workforce pay.
- Produce and distribute payroll and overtime reporting as needed by cross-functional teams.
- Identify opportunities for Workday payroll process improvements.
- Monthly closing – prepare various payroll journal entries, vacation accruals, bonus accruals, benefit costs, wage garnishments, payroll taxes, etc.
- Prepare accurate and timely Workday account reconciliations.
- Assist in coordinating financial reporting activities related to payroll and treasury admin functions.
- Ad hoc Workday payroll and benefit reporting.
- Audit, preview, and post payroll reports for accuracy.
- Assist with adding and closing tax jurisdictions.
- Assist with Workday year-end payroll processing duties to ensure accurate and timely W2's.
- Maintain supporting documentation of all payrolls.
- Help enforce and refine payroll standards, policies, practices, and procedures.
- Work alongside the Sr. Payroll Accountant on payroll and accounting initiatives to enhance organizational efficiency and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Accounting or Business preferred
- 4-5 years of strong and proficient payroll and accounting experience
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification a plus
- Multi-state, federal, and local tax experience required
- Payroll tax processing experience required
- Proven ability to work productively, efficiently, confidentially, and effectively under a tight timeline
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to assess a sense of urgency and prioritization of work
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to seek resources as needed
- Proven customer service skills while maintaining a confidential work environment
- Strong demonstration of business ethics and integrity
