Job Title: Executive Director

Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000
Hours: Full Time Exempt position (occasional weekend and/or evening hours)
Background:
Founded in 1984 (the “Food Bank”) is an established Texas Non-profit Corporation (Incorporated in 2006). Our mission is to provide food to all eligible individuals and families in need, regardless of their race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, or disability. Our organization is a 99.9% volunteer organization, and we rely on the efforts of community volunteers to assist neighbors in need.

The Little Elm Area Food Bank focuses on providing children, seniors and families access to nutritious food.
Position Summary:
The Executive Director will function as the primary administrator of the Food Bank in partnership with the Board of Directors (the “Board”.) The Executive Director will report to the President, or in the President’s absence, the Vice President, or another member of the board designated by the President.
Responsibilities will include ensuring that adequate food supply is available to neighbors of the Food Bank as well as securing volunteers to assist in the administration of food bank operations. The Executive Director will be responsible for the supervision and management of a large group of volunteers. The Executive Director will coordinate the training of volunteers to ensure compliance with food bank guidelines. The Executive Director will work to ensure the financial viability of the food bank by facilitating grant opportunity by producing a grant specialist and soliciting contributions, based on the goals established.
The Executive Director responsibilities include assisting the Bookkeeper and/or Treasurer in maintaining accurate and complete financial books and records and the preparation of the annual budget, annual financial statements in addition to completion of all IRS forms and ensuring they are filed on time.
The Board delegates responsibility for management and day-to=day operations to the Executive Director, and has the authority to fulfill these responsibilities, in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board. The Executive Director provides direction and enables the Board as it conducts its governance functions. The Executive Director’s discretion is subject to all relevant Board policies.
General Responsibilities:
Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions. Prepare monthly service and financial reports for the Board.
Meet individual standards for program operation. Actively participate in educational training as it relates to the position.
Responsible for implementation of the food bank’s programs through a team of volunteers.
Works with the Board to facilitate the strategic planning to ensure that the food bank can successfully fulfill its mission.
Responsible for the enhancement of the food bank’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organization by expanding knowledge of the food bank throughout the community.
Responsible administration of the food bank’s operations. Including monthly reports by the 5th of each month to North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) and retail donors.
Supervise volunteers involved in food bank operations. This includes but is not limited to recruiting volunteers, scheduling volunteers, and disciplining volunteers as needed including, with the knowledge and consent of the Board, the removal of volunteers from service to the food bank.
Maintain food inventory records and track food acquisition expenses. Maintain temperature logs of freezers and refrigerators.
Manage and communicate with the food bank’s website contractor ensuring that displayed information is accurate and current.
Respond to e-mails and correspondence through the food bank’s Facebook page, within 1 business day.
Oversee maintenance and security of the facility
Coordinate acquiring food resources to maximize food options available to the neighbors of the food bank.
Coordinate with community agencies and civic organizations to promote food collection.
Assist in a public relations campaign through advertisements and public speaking in an effort to raise awareness of the food bank and increase both food donations and financial support, as well as volunteers.
Attend monthly Board meetings.
Demonstrate a willingness to perform whatever duties are necessary in the development and maintenance of the organization
Develop contingency and back plans to cover potential gaps in key volunteer positions. This may include the Executive Director covering the gap.
Research program best practices from around the country and make recommendations improve our food bank.
Review the neighbor process and ensure improvements are made when necessary.
Spearhead fundraising and marketing, which will include grant writing and the annual Food Bank Gala.
Desired Qualifications and Experience; The ideal candidate will have:
At least 4 to 7 years of experience working at a non-profit program, preferably food bank or food pantry.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Community Services, Ministry, Social Work or a relation field preferred. A combination of some college and related multi-years’ experience and/or training may be substituted.
Experience in organizing a large group of volunteers.
Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal skills, supervisory skills.
Ability to treat neighbors, volunteers and board members in a professional and courteous manner.
Outstanding leadership and management skills.
Skills in conflict resolution.
Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to “think quickly on your feet”.
Ability to manage light bookkeeping.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Work, MS Publisher, Excel, and PowerPoint. Also experienced with the use of the Internet and e-mail.
Bilingual is a plus.
Physical and Personal Requirements:
Ability to lift 30 pounds. Lifting files, boxes and food items; bending, reaching, and stooping to gather food items.
Must be able to use your personal vehicle to pick up food supplies. Will be reimbursed for mileage according to IRS standards.
Must be willing and able to work some weekends, evenings, and early mornings.
Provide management oversight at the Food Bank: Mondays 9am-4pm; first Wednesday of the month 9:30am-noon; Thursdays 9am-4pm; Fridays 9-noon and second and third Saturday 9am-noon.
