The clinician/therapist will report to the Director of College Programs, and under this direction and collaboration will?provide clinical support for social, emotional and behaviors needs while in the time limited program with connections to the family and the team. The position is M-F, schedule is dependent on the students schedule and needs, and location can vary between the College of Saint Rose, College Experience dorms, and Living Resources main office.
The essential duties of clinician/therapist will include:?
- Provide individual and/or group counseling at cadence appropriate to address clinical and psychosocial needs.?
- Counsel students on coping skills and management of their person-centered goals to improve distress tolerance, stress reduction and positive communication skills ?
- support sensitive situations?
- Provide consultation, collaboration and training with all staff to deliver purposeful, consistent approach to promote student self-efficacy.?
- Support educational classes including Elevatus
- Conduct evaluations and assessments?
- Maintain and develop professional relationships with graduate level colleges/universities for intern supervision?
- Conduct professional development workshops and trainings regarding topics pertinent and unique to the CEP student population?
- Attend agency committees as applicable (e.g. Sex Rights and Advocacy Committee)?
- Teach classes, when applicable, to College Experience students
- Complete the necessary BSP/MMP for CEP students on psychotropic medications per the OPWDD regulations ?
- Attend team meetings and consult with the CEP team for crisis navigation or sensitive situations?
- Communicate with parents on student needs and or progress
- A Master’s Degree from an accredited clinical mental health-counseling program
- Must hold a valid NYS license in Mental Health Counseling
- At least three years’ experience working with people living with ID/DD. ?
This position requires a strong background, multiple clinical interventions, and theoretical foundations including but not limited to:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Informed Approaches and Dialectical Behavior Therapy and the development of person centered treatment plans written from a trauma informed perspective. ?The position also calls for strong knowledge base in the area of psychiatric issues in the ID/DD population including pharmacotherapy and differential diagnosis as well as consideration for continuity of care and connection with treatment teams and families?
