The Position
The Livingston County Department of Social Services is soliciting applications for a Social Services Attorney. The Social Services Attorney is responsible for providing legal advice and representation, as assigned, to the Livingston County Department of Social Services staff. Primary functions include: representing the Agency in family court proceedings as well as courts of general jurisdiction, collaborating with the management team regarding legal philosophy of the Department and developing Agency policies and procedures. The work is performed under the general direction of the Senior Social Services Attorney.
The incumbent will work closely with other members of the legal support staff and the administrative team for the purpose of work performance and short- and long-term planning and may be assigned additional functional areas. Supervision may be exercised over the work of subordinate employees.
Candidates must be admitted to practice and in good standing as an attorney and counselor at law before the courts of the State of New York, have a minimum of one (1) year paid or unpaid experience in the practice of law in New York State, a valid New York State driver’s license and maintenance of same throughout appointment, and an automobile which may be used to perform job responsibilities.
