What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Technician-Part-time 2nd Shift position at LKQ?
Responsible for carrying out various production assignments within the wheel remanufacturing process, with the ability to be productive and accurate while working safely and producing quality products.
Essential Job Duties:
Assure safety standards are used at all times and comply with all OSHA and L&I regulations.
Follow all work instructions SOI's.
Responsible for productivity and quality for assigned production process.
Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of assigned work areas.
Comply with established company policies and procedures.
Assume other duties as assigned.
The following duties may apply dependent on the specific production area(s) which the employee is assign.
May Perform Additional Duties As Assigned For General Wheel Remanufacturing Production:
Identifies wheel/bumper cores daily for inventory, and separates cores based on "non-usable" which are thrown away, and "usable" which are prioritized for production.
Physically inventories entire core yard weekly.
Assists in the receiving process, and the cleaning and straightening process.
Assist in hand detail process and powder coat process.
May Perform Additional Duties As Assigned For Preparation:
Understand the SOIs for removing paint, dirt, grease, etc. from the wheel surface by operating and maintaining equipment as initially trained.
Provide surface comparable to original wheel, and check wheel label to ensure correct identification.
Inspect wheels for defects and verify all wheels are stamped before leaving the department.
May Perform Additional Duties As Assigned For Repairing:
Evaluate incoming cores for reparability through visual inspection and gaging for straightness.
Prioritize work load to maintain pace with the Receiving department, and maintain required logs for all repaired wheels.
Understand requirements and standards of the welding process, and able to operate mille.
May Perform Additional Duties As Assigned For Painting:
Understand Wheel Group identification system to correctly interpret painting instructions for each wheel.
Monitor and regulate settings on equipment (e.g. ovens, spray guns), and practice regular quality checks for thickness, appearance.
Review wheels for color match to color masters, and rework wheels as necessary.
May Perform Additional Duties As Assigned For Polishing:
Identify the required steps for properly processing and polishing aluminum wheels.
Determine sanding grit by the severity of the defect on the wheel, and sand all areas as needed.
Load wheel into machine, place in rinse tank, inspect wheel and buff to remove any potential defects, finish polishing, place in wash tank, rinse and place wheel on wheel rack and scan into computer.
May Perform Additional Duties As Assigned For Machining:
Understand standard charts for dimensions and tolerance, and understand tooling instructions such as holding fixtures, cutting speeds, feed rates, and cutting tools to be used.
Compute data such as dimensions, rotation speeds, feed rates, and machining times.
Operate CNC lathes to machine wheels and provide surface comparable to original wheel.
May Perform Additional Duties As Assigned For Shipping:
Complete job receipts on all wheels coming out of process.
Responsible for final quality and data integrity check on wheels before they are sent out of the facility.
Pack and ship wheels per customer requests.
May Perform Additional Duties As Assigned For Receiving:
Identify and receive in all purchased wheels, restores, and cores, and evaluate the condition of incoming wheels and mark the outside diameter with the appropriate processing information.
Operate fork lift as required to load/unload trucks, and dismount, mount and balance wheels/tires.
- Maintain logs and records of incoming wheels, and ensure proper material is received
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent desired. Prior painting, sanding, and machining experience preferred, supplemented by on-the-job training, to learn duties, nature of work performed, procedures, work methods, to become familiar with the company's products, locations, machines and equipment, operating methods, and to attain proficiency requirements and to fully assume responsibilities of the job.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Must be familiar with the company's products and warehouse methods, techniques and procedures. Must be able to work in cooperation with others. Must be attentive to detail and ensure accuracy in work assignments. Must be able to communicate effectively with others. Must have the flexibility to work variable schedules, including weekends.
MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT:
Lathe, sand blaster, powder coater, hand grinder, torch set, wheel straightener, and ladder.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires individuals to constantly be on their feet except when operating machinery. Should not have any lifting restrictions and must not be afraid of heights. They must be able to stand for long periods, sit, walk, push, pull, bend, climb and be able to move/lift up to 75 pounds regularly. They must be able to climb ladders, stairs and withstand heights of more than 15 feet. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Should be able to tolerate high and low temperature levels. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is moderately loud. Must have flexibility to work variable schedules, including weekends.
