Job Summary – Litigation Paralegal
This position will support all areas of Starwood Property Trust’s Legal Department. The Litigation Paralegal will provide litigation and general paralegal support to the in-house attorneys and liaise directly with outside counsel and asset managers in connection with all aspects related to litigation matters.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform tasks associated with litigation support and reporting, including coordination with outside counsel and service providers.
- Responsible for on-boarding and tracking new litigation matters, including service of process, calendaring of hearings/deadlines and trial support, as necessary.
- Responsible for litigation tracking through the use of ProLaw.
- Manage litigation reporting, including the preparation of litigation reports for various business segments of the Company.
- Manage all discovery projects, including eDiscovery and designation as the primary point of contact throughout the discovery/eDiscovery lifecycle.
- Assist with the preparation of discovery and subpoena responses.
- Manage electronic document library and document posting on SharePoint.
- Assist with retention of outside counsel, including preparing and sending engagement letters, conflict waivers and other notices.
- Assist with planning legal trainings.
- Assist with miscellaneous projects assigned. Perform any and all other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Legal Department and the Company.
- Obtain notary public certification in order to witness and authenticate signatures.
Knowledge and Skills:

- General litigation experience, including reviewing pleadings, drafting responses to written discovery, and preparing electronic discovery requests and litigation hold memos.
- Prior experience with document management and database software systems.
- Ability to think creatively and strategically in a fast-paced pressured environment.
- Detail-orientated with exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Strong writing ability.
- Must possess strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex subjects in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, and have the ability to effectively use and learn internal systems for asset management. Experience with ProLaw and GEMS is a plus.
Education and Experience:
- College degree required and paralegal certification preferred (or equivalent job experience).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of previous litigation paralegal experience in a law firm - preferably working in the real estate industry.
- In-house legal department experience a plus.
