Lochmueller Group is looking for an experienced Transportation Planner IV to join our growing Traffic Engineering & Planning Department. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic, multidisciplinary firm with a growing Traffic Engineering and Planning practice.
The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong background in transportation planning and project management. This position will be involved in the management, delivery, and coordination of activities for a variety of transportation planning projects that may include comprehensive plans, transportation plans, corridor studies, transit studies, pedestrian & bicycle studies, electric vehicle (EV) charging station plans, GIS-based analysis and cartography, travel demand models, traffic calming studies, traffic forecasting, economic analyses, NEPA environmental studies, parking studies, and other planning-oriented projects.
Lochmueller Group is involved in a variety of projects, including highways and bridges for various local public agencies and state DOT’s, design-build pursuits, trail planning and design, stormwater master plans, and EV charging station plans. Our Traffic Engineering & Planning team works with both public and private sector clients to solve their most complex transportation challenges. Our practice encompasses all areas of traffic engineering and planning, including traffic impact studies, safety studies, traffic simulation, travel demand modeling and forecasting, corridor planning, traffic signal operations, signal and ITS design, comprehensive planning, transit planning, pedestrian and bicycle planning, and long-range transportation planning.

In this position, the candidate will:
- Serve as project manager for transportation planning projects
- Provide leadership in the planning and execution of major projects
- Mentor, and may directly supervise, junior staff members.
- Collaborate with senior management on strategic planning and assist with business development
- Lead the development and negotiation of scopes of services, fee estimates, schedules, and agreements
- Manage and monitor scopes of services, project budgets and schedules
- Participate in professional organizations to stay abreast of industry developments and evolving practices in transportation planning
- Maintain relationships with state and local agencies, clients, and peer consulting organizations and serve as a point of contact for planning-oriented services
- Coordinate with sub-consultants to evaluate and track activities and progress
- Communicate regularly with clients to ensure understanding of progress, issues, and other time-sensitive information
- Lead coordination with other internal divisions, client organizations, and state and local agencies
- Direct, facilitate, and participate in project meetings with multi-disciplinary project teams, clients, stakeholders, public, and others as needed
- Direct, review, and assist with the development of reports, exhibits, documentation, and materials to document and present project or study results
- Coordinate the collection, assimilation, and analysis of project data, information, and documentation
- Prepare Letters of Interest, Proposals and/or Statements of Interest and lead interviews for project pursuits
- As opportunities present themselves, this role may also be involved in other responsibilities and projects.
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in urban planning, transportation planning, geography, environmental science, or a related field
- 10-15 years of relevant urban or transportation planning experience
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification, Professional Transportation Planner Certification, or other similar registration
- Strong understanding of transportation, land use, urban design, and/or economic development planning principles and standards
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, ESRI Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
- Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills along with public speaking experience
- Strong strategic planning capabilities
- Ability to proactively manage scope, budget, and schedule on projects.
- Adept at developing innovative, well-supported solutions to complex and controversial problems
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Valid driver’s license.
