Game Master

Lockstar Escape is now hiring a part time gamemaster for weekend and holiday help! This is a fun job with a flexible schedule in a positive environment that pays very well. The job requires light physical activity, and very focused mental activity. Escape room experience is not required. Experience in retail or hospitality is beneficial, as the job is primarily about providing excellent customer service. Living in or very near Bluffton is required due to the amount of time that you will be on call.

An escape room is a popular group activity in which a people are "locked" in a themed room and must search for clues and solve puzzles, resulting in their "escape" from the room. A general description of your job would be setting up the room and giving guests clues to help them escape.

Our customers are mostly families or friend groups ranging in age from early 20's to 60's. We do get kids' birthday groups, but those are not a large percentage. (The general vibe is chill and NOT that of a Chuck E. Cheese.)

Daily Gamemaster duties include:

• Arriving to work on time, EVERY time. Our customers book appointments and you must be on time. Please do not apply if you are not mature, punctual, and extremely reliable!
• Greeting guests in the lobby gift shop.
• Instructing guests to sign waivers
• Explaining to beginner guests how escape rooms work
• Explaining the clue system and rules
• Monitoring the gameplay for an hour from the control room via cameras and microphones in the escape rooms
• Providing hints via typing (must be able to type fairly quickly)
• Congratulating guests after the game and answering any questions they have about the room
• Taking guests' photo
• Ringing up any gift shop purchases
• Resetting the game quickly and precisely for the next group (Placing all props back in the correct location, re-engaging all locks, wiping down counters, etc.)
• Light cleaning as needed (Keeping the restroom stocked and clean for new guests, vacuuming the floor, dusting, etc.)

The pay is determined by experience, the quality of your work, and your ability to work alone. General starting training pay is $14/hr plus tips and bonuses. You can expect to make another $2 to $7 per hour in tips and bonuses (or even more if you give great customer service!) bringing starting income to $16 to $21 per hour. Pay increases are based on your performance when training is complete and you are able to problem-solve adequately and perform all duties well without any supervision.

We are currently looking for weekend/holiday help, although some weekdays might be available too. We don't stay open late at night, and don't open early mornings. We would generally require most weekends, but are willing to discuss if you occasionally need some weekend time off.

Our past gamemasters have been teachers or students. Someone with a full time Monday - Friday job that just wants some easy supplemental pay would be ideally suited for this position. I would encourage anyone of any age over 18 that meets the requirements to apply. This may be something you never considered doing that turns out to be the best job you've had!
