Job Description
Locus robotics is seeking a Robotics Engineer, Senor Integration to join the Robot Software Team. This hire will help discover, test, and integrate new sensors and technologies into future iterations of our mobile robot platforms. The ideal candidate loves to hack robot prototypes together using ROS, enjoys seeing where new hardware excels or falls short, can envision clever new ways of using existing technology, but is always on the hunt for next greatest sensor. This role requires you to be onsite at our US offices in Wilmington MA or Nashua NH for at least 50% of the role. We cannot support a fully remote employee for this position.
Job Responsibilities:
- Understanding the sensing challenges of mobile warehouse robots.
- Integrating new sensing hardware into our ROS software stack.
- Formulating test scenarios to assess the viability of new sensors for our robot platforms.
- Collaborating with the product development team on trade-offs between sensor cost and capabilities.
- Participating in hands-on robotics testing at one of our engineering facilities.
- Collaborate in design and code reviews with other team members.
- Documenting test procedures and results, and providing recommendations.
- Working with manufactures to tailor sensor designs to meet the needs of our robots.
- Searching for new candidate sensors that enable new robot capabilities, improve performance, or reduce cost.
- The ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Engineering, Robotics, or related field, or equivalent experience in robotics.
- Candidate must be willing to work in-person at our Wilmington, MA or Nashua, NH office roughly 50% of the time.
- 2 years experience configuring sensors and hardware using ROS.
- 2 years of commercial robotics experience.
- Familiarity with the sensing challenges of autonomous mobile robotics.
- Familiarity with common robotics sensing modalities, such as monocular and stereo vision, structured light, and time-of-flight.
- Basic familiarity with statistical hypothesis testing.
- Proficiency with automation and scripting languages, such as Python or Bash.
- Proficiency with a Linux environment.
- Proficiency in English written and oral technical communication skills.
- Ability to document and present test results clearly.
