The Senior Director of Human Resources is responsible for developing and executing human resource strategy in support of the overall mission and strategic direction of the organization, specifically in the areas of recruitment and retention; onboarding; training and development; performance management; compensation and benefits; legal and regulatory compliance; and employee engagement. The Senior Director works directly with the team of Officers to provide strategic leadership for the organization. In doing so, the Senior Director collaborates with the President & CEO and members of the Officer team to align organizational priorities with human resource strategy. The Senior Director leads a team of human resource professionals, driving and supporting the development and day-to-day execution of human resource functions.

Requirements

Essential Functions

Organizational Leadership

  • Provides organizational leadership and participates in organizational decision-making in collaboration with the President & CEO and the Officer team.  
  • Develops and implements goals and strategies that align with the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Leads, in collaboration with organizational leaders, the development and implementation of employee recruitment, retention and engagement strategies.  
  • Works closely with management and employees to provide consultation and guidance to improve work relationships, build moral and increase productivity and retention.
  • Collaborates with leadership and staff to develop and implement the Cultural Competency Plan, which includes a priority focus on strategies that promote a culture of Inclusion, Diversity, Equitability and Accessibility for LOGAN staff and stakeholders.
  • Researches and remains current on human resources trends and issues to contribute information, analysis and recommendations that impact the organization’s strategic direction.
  • Analyzes the organization’s human resources trends and metrics and shares data with leadership team members.
  • Works effectively with all departments to assure that LOGAN implements sound business and human resources practices in the delivery of our services.
  • Attends and participates in meetings of the Board of Directors and Human Resources Advisory Council.
  • Works collaboratively with organizational leadership and Safety Team members on risk management and safety plans to ensure practices are in place to promote a safe work environment.
  • Attends LOGAN events which promote the organization to the community.

Human Resources Team Leadership

  • Directs the functional areas of the Human Resources team including, but not limited to, recruitment and retention, onboarding, training and development, performance management, compensation and benefits, and employee engagement.
  • Monitors the performance of human resources staff, completes annual performance evaluations, initiating and assuring prompt recognition and disciplinary action as appropriate.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer, develops the annual budget for the Human Resources department.
  • Ensures compliance of human resource functions for accreditation with CARF International.
  • Develops and enforces human resources policies and procedures that comply with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Ensures the maintenance of employee records including transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, terminations, discipline records, and performance appraisals.
  • Develops a system of cross-functionality of team responsibilities.

Projects, Functions and Initiatives

  • Leads the development of a comprehensive array of employee compensation and benefits while engaging with business partners.
  • Leads the ongoing delivery of the LOGAN Leadership Academy in collaboration with Leadership South Bend Mishawaka.
  • Manages and resolves employee relation issues and assist legal counsel on employment claims involving discrimination and harassment by conducting internal investigations.
  • Administers workers’ compensation and unemployment issues, including all related paperwork and filings.
  • Administers all employee-related legal issues. Provides leadership and guidance to resolve complex employee issues. Consults with legal counsel on matters of legal importance and communicates with the President & CEO and Board of Directors as appropriate.
  • Learns and maintains working knowledge of Human Resource Information System.
  • Works directly with business partners to support the overall human resource initiatives of the organization.
  • Responds to and completes audit requests, engaging staff as necessary. 
  • Completes special projects and supports organizational initiatives as assigned.    

General Responsibilities

  • Assures that the human resources activities provided reflect the core values of LOGAN.
  • Serves as a steward of LOGAN’s brand, reputation, and position in the community.
  • Learn and understand the broad array of services and resources provided by LOGAN.
  • Responsible for establishing high visibility and accessibility of the Human Resources department for employees.
  • Maintains high standards of professionalism and respect for all.                   
  • Addresses employee concerns in a reasonable and compassionate manner.
  • Communicates with staff on human resources matters.          
  • Seeks professional growth opportunities and participates in training and development as directed by the President & CEO.
  • Other duties as assigned by the President & CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Human Resources required.

Experience

  • Five or more years experiences as Human Resources Director, Manager or equivalent.
  • Progressive experience in human resources disciplines leading up to strategic focus and competencies.
  • Demonstrated track record of developing effective relationships across all organizational levels and diverse stakeholder groups.

Abilities, Interests, and Aptitudes

  • Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate well with the President & CEO, Board of Directors, Business Partners and all levels of employees. Must be an articulate and persuasive communicator.
  • Ability to conduct group facilitation. Coach and counsel managers at all levels.
  • Possess a strong technical knowledge of compensation, employment laws, EEO, FLSA, FMLS, ADA, employee relations, staffing and selection, performance management, training, and development.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships in order to be a trusted advisor for team members, managers and employees.
  • Results-oriented with proven ability to follow-through while handling multiple and competing priorities.
  • Ability to work professionally with confidential information.
  • Must be able to represent LOGAN professionally in public settings. 
  • Must have a broad, overall view of the LOGAN’s Mission, Vision and Values and be able to incorporate those guiding principles into operational excellence.
