Job Purpose:
The Service Technician position requires a person who will have the personality and confidence to arrive at a job site, assess the customers’ complaints, repair the system and explain to the customer how the problem was corrected. Technicians must service our customers promptly, efficiently and expertly. The Service Technician Team will be responsible for technical support for the company. The Service Technician duties also include field troubleshooting, field project supervising and system installation.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair systems based on customer complaints
- Communicate specific repairs made to systems to customers and internally within the company
- Programming systems including access control, video surveillance, intercom, RTLS, fire alarm, health care, and local sound/AV systems.
- Perform system and device upgrades when necessary
- Complete the necessary paperwork to document any changes to the system for as-built drawings
- Prepare service reports, completing all necessary paperwork with customer, recording all work performed, materials used, and any problems encountered to allow billing personnel to properly bill the customer
- Keep current on all suppliers’ software upgrades and patches including technical bulletins and functional changes any supplied equipment
- Be available for 24 hour service duty as assigned for one week at a time
- Report worked hours on a daily or weekly basis as required by current company policy
Qualifications
- Must have knowledge of life safety communications and/or nurse call systems
- Alarm license in the state in which you will work, if applicable
- Knowledge of all fire safety codes and regulations
- Minimum of 5 years electronics or industry related experience
- Must have experience troubleshooting and repairing electronic equipment such as sound, video, security, telephone, or computers
- Proven ability to work alone with little supervision
- OSHA Construction 10 or 30 hour
- Systems installation experience a plus
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED, or on the job training may substitute as equivalent
- Two-year degree in fundamental electronics or proven equivalent
- NICET certification preferred
Skills
- Ability to read, write, and understand the English language
- Ability to comprehend and learn instruction manuals and submittals
- Competence to repair, test, and program all equipment sold or installed by the company/
- Understanding of electronics theory, basic programming, computer skills, IP addressing, and networking
- Ability to read and understand schematics and blueprints as required
- Basic computer skills including ability to use email and spreadsheet programs
- Ability to understand and adhere to company policies and applicable laws
- Willingness to learn in both organized classrooms and through independent study
- Ability to take classes outside of company time to increase knowledge of computers and electronics

Working Conditions
- Hours: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday with a 30-minute lunch. Weekends and extended hours may be required during peak months. Some projects will require work hours of 3:00PM to 11:00PM facilities that operate during the day. Hours and days to be assigned based on jobsite. Hours worked in excess of 40 hours during a week pay period will be paid time and a half.
