SUMMARY
Patient Financial Specialist is responsible for reconciling patient balance, patient collections, payment plans, working in conjunction with contracted collection agency, handling credit card disputes, and managing bankruptcy accounts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Patient Collections
- Reconcile patient balance (insurance vs patient)
- Work with Accounts Receivable team for claim resubmission
- Calling on outstanding patient accounts
- Setting up and managing payment plans
- Handling credit card disputes
- Collection Agency
- Working collection agency patient disputes
- Uploading and maintaining patient accounts in collection agency software
- Bankruptcy
- Managing bankruptcy cases in Athena
- Policies
- Work within guidance of Billing Compliance Plan
- Work within Billing Guidelines
- Maintain and follow strict privacy, confidentiality, and safety protocols. Comply with all government regulations around the following:
- HIPAA
- OSHA
- PCI DSS
- No Surprise Act
- Other Administrative Duties
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Deliver faxes to billing department staff member when appropriate
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalency
- Strong computer skills required
- 5 years collections experience in healthcare
- 2 years billing experience
Preferred Education/Experience
- Some college – medical, business, accounting focus
- Bilingual
- EMR experience preferred – Athenahealth practice management system
CUSTOMER SERVICE EXCELLENCE
- Provide customer service in accordance to clinic mission
- Demonstrate ability to be courteous and respectful when interacting with patients and family members
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance to policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements
- Enact proper chain of command for patient complaints
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, and the general public
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

- Must have a high level of energy with the ability to adjust to any justifiable pace.

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities

Salary: $17 - $20 / hour
