Loparex LLC is the leading manufacturer of extrusion base and silicone-coated release liners for the converting industry. We have operational sites across the United States, Europe, China, and India. Loparex's Iowa City Facility is currently seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join our dynamic team.

In this role, you will be responsible for the development of machine control programming, data acquisition, and HMI systems for our Iowa City facility.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Champion a safety-first culture by leading by example, actively participating in safety engagements, and ensuring team compliance with all safety guidelines and protocols.

  • Adhere to all plant safety regulations, including lockout/tagout procedures, confined space entry protocols, and fall protection measures.

  • Develop and implement programs for PLC, HMI, and AC/DC drives.

  • Install, modify, and maintain electrical and electronic equipment, both new and existing.

  • Oversee the startup and integration of new or modified equipment.

  • Create systems to align the facility with plant objectives and enable continuous operations.

  • Ensure compliance with NED electrical codes, OSHA regulations, and standard operating procedures for the installation, modification, and repair of electrical and electronic equipment and systems.

  • Generate and update schematic drawings using AutoCAD to document the architecture of automated systems and field wiring.

  • Enhance productivity by modifying existing PLC programs, making changes within ladder logic, function block programming, and visual basic coding.

  • Manage Proficy IFix computers, including hardware and software upgrades, troubleshooting, and other related tasks.

  • Contribute to the BBS (Behavioral Based Safety) and LPA (Layered Process Audit) programs.

  • Collaborate on projects involving AEI (Automation, Electrical & Instrumentation) solutions.

  • Participate in plant safety committees as required.

  • Maintain regular on-site attendance.

  • Perform any additional duties assigned by the manager.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Prior experience that meets the expectations of the role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

  • Familiarity with Intellution, Ihistorian, Allen Bradley, Siemens TI 505, and Ladder Logic programming.

  • Proficiency in utilizing a wide range of diagnostic and repair tools.

  • Ability to interpret and follow electronic/electrical schematics, technical manuals, drawings, and regulatory guidelines.

  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical concepts and process instrumentation.

  • Strong analytical and communication skills, including the ability to lead a team.

  • Effective prioritization and planning abilities, with the skill to utilize time efficiently and develop realistic action plans.

  • Professional communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Proficiency in office productivity software for email, word processing, and spreadsheets.

  • Capability to wear personal protective equipment, including ear plugs, safety glasses, and steel toe shoes.
