Description

As a member of the Chassis team, the Chassis Validation Engineer will be responsible for Chassis component, system, and vehicle level testing. Expect to use your experience and engineering tools to ensure both initial assembly and component specifications support system performance targets and government regulatory requirements, and that these components maintain adherence to product requirements throughout vehicle life.

  

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the validation of components, assemblies, and systems (including frames, stabilizer bars, conventional dampers, coil and leaf springs, shackles, bushings, knuckles, control arms, steering, brakes, axles, etc).
  • Coordinate and direct Road Load Simulation testing. Work with LMC Engineering and supplier to define loads, cycles, etc. Assist in correlation of RLS test performance with vehicle testing.
  • Monitor and report on vehicle level durability/corrosion testing.
  • Manage supply base testing status of components/systems.
  • Develop DVPR plans (durability, fatigue, impact and tensile testing) where LMC is design responsible.
  • Develop testing standards/protocols (durability, fatigue, impact and tensile testing) where LMC is design responsible.
  • Provide design direction and technical leadership as needed to define/build required fixtures for component/system testing.
  • Duty life cycle analysis to support customer requirements for PPAP and validation requirements. 
  • Run post-test analysis on test samples. Provide support for post-test root cause investigations.
  • Provide problem solving capability for Chassis component/system issues, both in-house and with the suppliers on specific applications. Track, monitor, and communicate project open issue status for project design/development/applications.
  • Assist in generation of DFMEAs for Chassis component/system designs and follow up on action items to address high severity and RPN items. Participate in vehicle level and component level DVP activities, ensure supplier validation signoff of components.
  • Work to program timing milestones to complete validation testing.
  • Work closely with DREs and project managers to ensure compliance with government regulatory and LMC specifications and homologation requirements.
  • Provide relevant technical input during the development of Chassis component/system designs and throughout sourcing process and beyond.


Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • 5 Years of Automotive validation engineering experience (with 5 years of experience in and strong understanding of Chassis components/systems).
  • Experience with benchmarking against competitor products.
  • Understanding of commercial product durability and life cycle requirements.
  • Must be able to work with minimal instruction and guidance to create the desired result.
  • Experience with DFMEA and DVP
  • Knowledge of engineering software and systems as it pertains to life cycle analysis
  • Generate and implement ideas to continuously improve work environment, systems, tools, processes as well as product cost and quality
  • Experience working for or with an automotive Electric Vehicle company is a plus
  • Problem solving mindset
  • DFSS Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the light to mid-duty truck segment
