What are the responsibilities and job description for the Alpha Wing Technician (Research Tec 5) position at Los Alamos National Laboratory?
What You Will Do
Inorganic, Isotope, and Actinide Chemistry (C-IIAC) Group performs research and addresses mission needs related to the nation's nuclear energy, renewable energy and medical imaging arenas.
Mission thrust areas within the group include actinide chemistry supporting new materials and separation processes, development of the production methods and applications of accelerator-produced radioisotopes, and energy storage/production methods using chemical systems. Basic and applied research conducted within the group includes nuclear chemistry and physics, accelerator target physics, inorganic chemistry, catalysis and chemical transformations, and environmental chemistry in support of these programs.
The Alpha Wing within TA-48, Bldg. 1, houses a versatile collection of state-of-the-art capabilities for answering challenging fundamental and applied science questions that lie at the convergence of the fields of inorganic chemistry and radiochemistry. Within Alpha Wing, a team of ~20 researchers of diverse technical backgrounds, educational levels and career stage harness these capabilities to tackle technical problems important to DOE missions in national security, isotope production, heavy element chemistry and separations science. We are seeking a highly-motivated individual to serve in the newly created position of "Alpha Wing Technician" to support both the team and its capabilities, in order to help us meet both present and future needs of the large Alpha Wing work scope. The chosen candidate will provide day-to-day operational leadership on the floor of the Alpha Wing, help schedule and support work, and train and oversee a team of post-doctoral researchers and students. The Technician will also oversee stocking and procurement associated with the Alpha Wing, and help facilitate improvements and operational activities with the FOD. Finally, the Technician will also help maintain instruments and other equipment, reprocess and recycle valuable radioisotopes for scientific campaigns, and participate in and (potentially) lead technical efforts.
