Job Posting for Forensic Autopsy Technician at Louisiana Forensic Center
A Forensic Autopsy Company located in Broussard, LA has an immediate opening for a Forensic Autopsy Technician.
Under general supervision of the Forensic Pathologist, the duties include but are not limited to:
Assists physicians with forensic post mortem examinations to include collection of toxicological specimens, evisceration, and preservation of legal specimens and clothing in accordance with instructions delegated by standard operating procedures.
Performs x-rays as needed for forensic studies.
Works the morgue control desk as needed to include releasing decedents and personal property to funeral homes.
Accepts, preserves, and is accountable for clothing, property, and valuables belonging to decedents
Maintains the safety, sanitation, and custodial conditions of the morgue as mandated by policy.
Provides assistance to other morgue staff as needed or requested by administration.
Maintains each case file and performs follow-up requests and inquiries to coroners and law enforcement as needed.
Routine ordering of necessary supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned by administration.
Requirements include:
High School Diploma or GED equivalency from an accredited educational institution.
Understanding of basic human anatomy and physiology (Preferred)
Understanding of basic medical terminology. (Preferred)
Ability to maintain accurate logs, charts, files records, and related documents.
Must be able to learn and apply procedures and techniques required to assist physicians in post mortem examinations.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions are essential.
Must have good written and oral communication skills.
Must maintain the confidentiality and integrity of applicable information.
Must have physical strength to move and transfer decedents weighing /- 200 pounds from stretcher to autopsy table and storage using acceptable techniques.
Must be physically and psychologically able to deal with death and human remains in various stages of trauma, decomposition, and disease. Must be able to work near and with bodily fluids and waste.
Full range of motion and finger dexterity for grasping, holding, and pushing to handle a variety of tools for evisceration (removal of viscera (internal organs, especially those in the abdominal cavity), and suturing of decedents.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time and tolerate unpleasant odors.
Must be able to pass a drug screen
Must not have a criminal record.
Must be able and willing to take call after hours, weekend, and holidays as needed.
Must be flexible with work hours.
Must be a team player.
Must be organized and detail oriented.
Must be self-directed and forward thinking
