Position Summary

This position serves Louisiana’s Office of Public Health within the Bureau of Family Health (BFH). This position performs data collection, analysis, and evaluation work involving the planning, gathering, analysis and reporting of statistical data associated with Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and violence and injury surveillance outcomes, and grants administration associated with the Bureau of Family Health’s morbidity and mortality surveillance efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Concentration in Epidemiology plus a minimum of 2 years professional experience
  • Prior program management experience preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, especially oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Intermediate to advanced SAS, R or STATA, LinkPro, GIS software preferred with minimum 9 credit hours in epidemiology and/or biostatistics

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the overall collection of morbidity and mortality surveillance data for MCH mortality reviews, and Violent death prevention initiatives. Duties include case identification; ensuring data are abstracted and entered into the appropriate case review electronic systems in accordance with CDC standards; performing or overseeing data entry, data linkage, performing data editing/cleaning, analyses, and evaluation.
  • Participates in the analysis and dissemination of Louisiana morbidity and mortality data. Duties include the following: Participates with the Louisiana Violent Death Reporting System (LA-VDRS) advisory workgroup; works with SAS statistical software to obtain frequencies through univariate and bivariate analyses of data; provide all data and develops and manages development and dissemination of reports.
  • Supports case review efforts through the provision of valid, reliable data.
  • Develops and implements morbidity and mortality surveillance grant evaluative methods.
  • Participates in surveillance analyses resulting in data dissemination products and abstract preparation and submission.
  • Supervises morbidity and mortality epidemiology staff and LA-VDRS Abstractors.
  • Assists the Principal Investigators/Project Directors with management of the morbidity and mortality related grants for the BFH.
  • Oversees identification and validation of mortality cases for review processes.
  • Represents the BFH in national, regional and local workgroups.

Salary/Benefits

Salary Range: $50,000 - 60,000 dependent on education and experience.
