Job Summary:
Material Handlers supplies the production lines, and ensures that materials are accurately entered, and delivered on time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Rotates on a daily basis to each established cell. Stocks production line with parts on a first in – first out (FIFO) basis. Maintain responsibility for the preservation of all parts in the assigned cell.
- Load and unload trucks, conveyers, lineside racking and other types of transporting equipment, either manually or with aid of material handling devices.
- Transporting material to and from departments and workstations, using hand trucks, forklifts, tote boxes, tuggers and other material handling equipment.
- Follows all work instructions and procedures. Reads work orders for movement of materials to the production line on a FIFO basis.
- Ensures Line is stocked in sequential order where applicable.
- Counts or weighs items to be moved, labels materials prior to being moved if applicable.
- Counts and stacks received materials, moves material and dunnage within storage area to and from the loading area using forklift truck, tugger, hoist motorized conveyor or other material handling equipment.
- Compares identifying information of incoming or outgoing shipments to verify against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
- Check items to be shipped against work orders to ascertain that quantities, destination and routing are correct.
- Verify that materials received are as ordered in type and quantity.
- Cycle count material as requested by the Material Supervisor (or designate). Interacts with and assists other material handlers to ensure adequate stock is available to maintain production.
- Restock line throughout shift and notifies Material Supervisor of any stock deficiencies, adhering to the Min/Max levels indicated on lineside racking.
- Participate in recycling programs where applicable. Cleans up battery acid spills if one occurs and keeps responsible cell area clean.
- Works on continuous improvement projects through the cell meetings. Comply with Quality, Environmental, and Material Management System requirements.
- Displays a positive attitude towards safety, works safely, follows all company policies, and reports all unsafe and unhealthy conditions.
- Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
- Complies with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards in accordance with the Magna Employee Charter and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Complete required training courses (Warehouse Safety Policy, Forklift Training, Yard Dock Procedure, Spill Response, Box Cutter, and Annual Safety).
- Work any overtime required to support their assigned team.
- All other duties as assigned
Required Education / Certification / Licensure:
No previous experience required. Must obtain a forklift license.
