SITE OF SERVICE:
- On-site at Atlanta VA Health Care System (AVAHCS) 1670 Clairmont Road, Decatur, GA 30033 and associated VA clinics
- Full Time (52 Weeks)
POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Bachelors Degree in Nursing or in related field or a Masters Degree in Nursing.
- Accreditation: Graduate from a college or university accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
- Licensure: Possess a current and unrestricted license to practice Registered Nurse in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
- Cardiac Certifications: Must have the following hands-on certification by a provider recognized by the American Heart Association
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life support (ACLS)
- Experience: Must have at least three (3) years current experience in an intensive care setting to include Critical Care experience. No more than 6-month gap working in that setting.
- Additional Certification:
- Completed an accredited course in Intensive Care Nursing as well certification in Moderate Sedation or equivalent. In lieu of ICU certification, candidates shall possess at least five years clinical experience in an Intensive Care Unit or other critical care environment
- Acute/Critical Care
- Nursing (CCRN) certifications through the American Association of CriticalCare Nurses Certification Corporation (AACN) CCRN certificate. (preferred)
- U.S. Citizenship: Shall be a U.S. citizen.
- English Language Requirement: Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
- Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.
DUTIES:
- Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Cardiac Care Unit (CCU), or the Emergency Room.
- Insertion of peripheral lines and Central lines. Open Heart, General Surgery, Vascular Surgeries, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump management, CRRT and management, and Vasoactive drugs. Assist with the insertion of Chest Tubes. Care for PCI, Post Cath Patients
- Collection of blood samples by venipuncture and central lines and swan Ganz catheter. Also, care for patients with on mechanical Ventilators, Airvo humidification systems, and Bipap-breathing support.
- Drawing of arterial blood from existing lines.
- Hemodynamic Monitoring
- Under the physician’s direction, the nurses in ICU may remove peripheral intravenous lines, central venous catheters and percutaneous arterial lines.
- In the event that the patient experiences chest pain or signs and symptoms of cardiac abnormalities, the nurse will perform a 12 lead EKG immediately.
- In the event that the patient develops asystole, ACLS protocol will be followed.
- In the event that a patient requires placement of an external pacemaker, the nurse will attach the patient to a pacing wire and pacing generator.
- Records pertinent information in CPRS and/or Clin Comp Hospital
- Electronic Record (HER) flowsheet throughout the shift
May be required to work with COVID 19 positive patients and Patients Under Investigation (PUI), for COVID 19. Inserting and maintenance of peripheral lines

- Ten (10) or twelve (12) hours shifts or a combination with rotating weekends
and holidays.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS
Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
