LUPE Votes seeks a highly motivated, driven individual to assist as a digital canvasser. The digital canvasser is responsible for connecting voters to LUPE Votes outreach efforts and helping promote LUPE Votes GOTV efforts. The digital canvassers manage tools such as ThruText, ThruTalk, list building, and other digital tools to ultimately increase participation and community leadership in LUPE Vote’s campaigns and programs. Applicants must be based in the Rio Grande Valley and be bilingual in English and Spanish. This position will pay $16/hr and will require nontraditional hours under the immediate supervision of the Civic Engagement Director.
Compensation: $16 per hour
Duration: April 22, 2024 -May 28, 2024
Time Commitment: Part Time, Exempt, Contract
Location: Hidalgo or Cameron County, TX
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other related duties as assigned.
- Create phone bank and text bank scripts in addition to digital materials that inform our members and supporters with relevant information, actions, and news to engage them into LUPE Vote’s campaigns and programs.
- Work with community organizers, civil engagement organizers, and social service providers to ensure community members sign up to receive updates from LUPE and/or follow us on social media
- Manage LUPE Vote’s digital tools, such as EveryAction, ThruText, Trengo, and various social media profiles.
- Create digital canvassing tactics include mass email, peer-to-peer SMS, direct messaging on social media, and creating social media content
- Ensure all materials adhere to LUPE Vote’s core narrative and messaging
- Create a digital alternative to “on-the-ground” actions so that members who can’t make it in person can participate and support our work.
- Analyze campaign data to identify trends, opportunities, and programs so that the team can operate at peak effectiveness
- Analyze, summarize, and present data and campaign performance in a manner accessible to non-technical decision-makers.
- Take a human-centered approach to data, and always remember that data is a tool to tell a story, understand narrative and enable others to do their best work.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Experience conducting data management in an electoral campaign, or organizing context (including facility with voter engagement tools and data challenges in targeting, identification, persuasion, and Get out the Vote efforts).
- Familiarity with voter targeting, identification, persuasion and Get Out the Vote efforts, as well as low-propensity turnout.
- Proficient at using data analytics to evaluate performance, track goals, and predict outcomes.
- Ability to synthesize data into usable formats, with a commitment to ensuring the highest level of clean, accurate, and timely data.
- Experience training others to effectively use tools and understand data.
- A robust racial justice analysis and equity lens, especially with respect to the questions and assumptions that inform data management and decision-making.
- Proven commitment to confidentiality. In this role, you’ll have a window into movement and organizing politics--and confidentiality is critical.
- An understanding of digital organizing and campaigns and of racial justice campaigns especially as practiced by the Immigration movement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Not Required but is a plus:
- Experience working with remote team members
- Ability to create compelling data visualizations using tools like Tableau.
- Familiarity with NGP-VAN, Catalist, and Targetsmart is helpful but not required.
- Experience using EveryAction and ActBlue is helpful but not required.

- The digital canvasser will interact most frequently with the Civic Engagement Director
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Canvassers are regularly required to sit, stand, walk and canvass to organize in a specified community for up to 20 hours per week.
- Manual Dexterity sufficient to operate a mobile device and computer.
- Ability to travel locally.
- This person will be required to use their personal vehicle for business, must carry auto insurance and have a current valid driver’s license.
