Lutheran Social Services of Illinois is a not-for-profit social service agency with more than 70 program sites throughout the state of Illinois. Our services include counseling, mental health, substance abuse treatment, housing, work with prisoners and their families and services for older adults and a variety of services for children including preschool, foster care, and adoption.
LSSI is offering a full-time position for On-call Crisis Counselor working at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park. The On-call Crisis Counselor will provide pre-screening of patients in crisis and linkage case management services. Intervention focuses on clinical assessment, linkage to appropriate community referrals and engaging difficult-to-engage clients. The day shifts are from 8am to 9pm.

Essential Functions:
- Must pick up at least one shift per month.
- Assess patients in crisis in a busy hospital ER setting and identify the need for immediate intervention for safety purposes.
- Communicate with supervisor, treatment team and collateral agencies in order to develop and execute a treatment plan.
- Communicate effectively with staff at shift change to ensure necessary crossover information and continuity of patient care.
- Complete and submit all necessary reports and documentation accurately and on time, as required by the agency and funding source.
- Demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences present in the organization and its service population.
- Adherence to ethical standards of treatment.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Psychology/Social Work/Human Services is required (Master’s degree or master’s student strongly preferred).
- Preferred one year experience working with mentally ill patients, counseling, crisis intervention, and case management.
- Ability to work in a team environment with demonstrated empathy and maturity.
- Ability to thrive in an ever changing and fast paced environment.
- Must be dependable.
- Able to work independently/strong time management skills.
- Must pass the IM_CANS or IM-CATS training & test.
