QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
- A Bachelor's degree in nursing, Master's degree preferred
- Certified by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a school nurse or able to meet the requirements for licensure
- Two years experience in child health, community health, or other relevant clinical nursing settings
- Ability to provide emergency care/assessment
- Knowledge of professional and legal requirements
- Human relations skills
- Organizational/administrative skills
- Knowledge of child growth and development
- Ability to effectively use local resources
- Techniques in health counseling/guidance
- Ability to deliver student/staff/parent presentations
- Strong district lens regarding EL, curriculum, and equity
- Knowledge of current education legislation/regulations
- Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and advocate for children in order to effectively problem solve
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and ability to work with all stakeholders
- Experience in an urban district/setting preferred
- Basic computer skills including data entry and word-processing
REPORTS TO: Director of School Nurses
JOB GOAL: Develop, implement and manage health services for the school population.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assess and treat illness, manage chronic disease
- Provide emergency care
- Develop and implement individualized health care plans for students requiring nursing services on IEP's and 504's
- Administer medication and immunizations
- Assure student health requirements are up-to-date
- Complete health screenings
- Maintain student health records and computer records
- Provide support and referral resources for children and their families
- Work with the school physician
- Prepare regular written reports for school officials and DPH
- Any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor
Work Year 10-month position
Salary As negotiated with Lynn School Committee and AFSCME Council 93, Local 3147-A
An offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical, including a drug test, National fingerprint-based Criminal Background Check (NCBC), and Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI). All MUST be completed PRIOR to the start of employment.
