Design and Merchandising Professional

M.S. Rau is looking for a Design and Merchandising Professional to provide assistance to the Lead Designer in the presentation of merchandise including gallery, exhibition, and trade show displays. This position will also assist in the design of custom framing, furniture, and casework to ensure a positive client experience.

Who You Are:

You have a strong work ethic, a desire to learn and positive attitude. The expertise you will bring include:

• Assist with the planning, design and layout of exhibitions, tradeshow displays and special projects with 3-dimensional modeling as required. 
• Assist the Lead Designer on placement of merchandise and any gallery adjustments after items sell.
• Participate and assist in ways to improve our display and customer experience in cost effective ways.
• Participate in gallery walk-throughs and make required notes of any improvements.
• Assist and, in some instances, take charge of rearranging the cabinets when smalls arrive and sell.
• Create detailed plans for the Art Handler team for large moves, exhibitions, shows, etc.
• Act as event liaison with Marketing and notify appropriate departments of any events that might affect schedule.
• Assist in the proper displaying and installing of merchandise at tradeshows.
• Assist in the design and creation of signage for products displayed in the gallery and at shows.

Requirements

Other skills you will bring to M.S. Rau:

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Architecture, Interior Design, or related fields
• 3 years of experience in a related field
• Expert level skills in Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office

Preferred

• Experience in Rhino, SketchUp or other 3D modeling software
• Expert level skills in drafting
• Experience in merchandising or exhibition design
• Familiarity of art and/or decorative art history

Compensation and Hours

This is a fulltime, hourly position with compensation commensurate with work experience as well as the potential to earn quarterly and annual bonuses. The position works Monday through Friday 8:30 to 5:15. There may be need for occasional evening and Saturday work.

Travel

This position requires travel to and from the warehouse and gallery as well as out-of-town overnight travel to tradeshows and client’s homes.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and antique gallery. The position occasionally requires work in a warehouse and offsite convention centers. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. This is a physically demanding role requiring the ability to regularly lift fragile, valuable items that weigh up to 30 pounds. Also requires the use of construction materials used in setting up displays such as ladders and hand tools. Work environment involves slight physical risk that requires following basic safety precautions. Advanced application of manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination is also required. The position uses a computer terminal to access, input, and retrieve data.
