Farrar, Straus and Giroux is seeking a passionate, energetic, thoughtful and creative Publicist to lead the publicity campaigns for a selection of titles from the FSG, MCD, and FSG Originals imprints. Reporting to the Associate Director of Publicity, this individual will be responsible for planning and executing multiple publicity campaigns each season across a range of genres, including literary fiction, commercial fiction, creative nonfiction, current affairs, history, and more. What you'll do:
- Implement comprehensive publicity campaigns for a diverse selection of frontlist titles each season, in consultation with senior members of the department
- Pitch and coordinate coverage with top national and local media organizations, including reviews and interviews across print, radio, television, podcasts, and online outlets
- Write press materials, including compelling press releases and creative pitches
- Organize in-person and virtual author appearances and tours, including coordinating book signings, creating detailed itineraries, and arranging travel
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with contacts at media outlets, bookstores, and other industry organizations
- Collaborate closely with the other members of the publicity and marketing departments, as well as with authors, agents, editors, and the sales team
What you'll bring:
- A passion for books and literature, an open mind, and a curiosity that matches the wide array of titles that FSG and its imprints publish
- Some prior experience in securing publicity coverage, booking interviews, and arranging events
- Exceptional organizational skills, as well as oral and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively
- Keen attention to detail and ability to multitask while working in a fast-paced environment
- Preexisting knowledge of key broadcast, print, and online contacts, and some experience with media placements
- Strong work ethic and critical thinking skills
Ideal Experience
- 3 years of publicity experience with a well-rounded knowledge of trade book publishing and the media landscape
This role will have an annual salary of $57,500-$60,000.
