Job Overview

As the “DVM” of Visual Presentation Standards and Training you will be the strategic partner to the Divisional VP, and will be responsible to drive customer experience, sales, and brand loyalty through the consistent execution of the in-store visual and merchandising presentation. You will be the center of excellence for fashion, style and trend presentations, and will influence the store teams to interpret and implement direction based on business opportunities, architecture, traffic flow and a balance of art and science. The DVM will oversee visual execution and will coach, train and provide feedback to store colleagues to implement and maintain Macy’s brand standards and visual merchandising initiatives specific to each Family of Business including Market by Macys and Backstage.

Essential Functions


  • Cleary communicate Visual Merchandising initiatives and Macy’s strategic priorities to Divisional VP and store teams ensuring consistency of execution and presentation across all stores.
  • Oversee and train on fashion presentations and styling to ensure both inspirational and experiential stores are Fashion Destinations.
  • Participate in Divisional and Regional Deep Dive Visits and serve as a key resource to the Divisional VP and Store Managers to determine visual and merchandising opportunities to increase sales
  • Provide Leadership and feedback to store teams on Visual Merchandising principles such as proper fixture placement and heights, enhanced presentation techniques and best use of architecture, to elevate store customer shopping experience
  • Train and ensure compliance of all safety, ADA and social distancing practices and policies to provide a safe environment for our customers and colleagues.
  • Lead individual store and division-wide training sessions both in person and virtually. Ensure training is cascaded to Store People Leaders and Colleagues.
  • Partner with Senior Manager of Presentation Standards and Trainings on all communication tools and training methods to ensure consistency across all stores.
  • Conduct ongoing Talent Analysis of direct reports; establish career progression plans for key players and positions in order to match best talent resulting in retention of best people and turnover reduction.
  • Provide feedback to Store Manager about OVM’s strengths and opportunities as it relates to visual merchandising to assists in talent analysis and ongoing career development
  • Execute seasonal and holiday prototypes to develop and communicate new standards and ensure execution across all stores.
  • Train store team on DWF and Map Central programs.
  • Manage visual and travel expenses to plan monthly.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • 4 Year / Bachelors Degree
  • A minimum of 5 years of visual merchandising or design related experience
  • Education/Experience: A minimum of 5 years of visual merchandising or design related experience.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to read, write, and interpret instruction documents such as reports and procedure manuals. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Mathematical Skills: Understanding of retail reporting such as the 12, black box, sapa.
  • Reasoning Ability: Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to effectively plan and execute strategies.
  • Physical Demands: This position involves regular walking, standing, hearing, and talking. May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Involves close vision, color vision, depth perception and focus adjustment.
  • Technology: Understanding of computer functions such as word, excel, DWF, etc.
  • Other skills: Strong leadership profile and excellent negotiation and influence skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to build partnerships and direct teams. Highly organized and ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Work Hours: Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and store/company needs.
  • Travel: Ability to commute to store locations throughout the division
