The Crewing Agent coordinates the assignment of all qualified mariners deployed aboard MLL’s commercial vessels by liaising with appropriate union; and ensures the qualifications of the assigned mariners are up to date including pre-employment paperwork, coordinating any training and compliance with the ISMC and SMS as it pertains to marine personnel. . May act as the Assistant Designated Employer Representative, Training Agent, or Marine Human Resources Personnel System Super-user. Key responsibilities • Ensure compliance with the current operating contracts for crewing of assigned vessels. • Ensure mariners are properly licensed and documented, fully trained, medically qualified, and possess any required security clearance. • Crew assigned vessels in accordance with MLL policies and procedures. • Comply with ISM and SMS related to marine personnel. • Maintain computer database of shipboard personnel and permanent personnel files for assigned vessels. • Maintain paper and electronic records and generate required reports. • Proactively and professionally communicate with officers, ratings, vessel managers, vessel agents, other departments, Maritime Academies, contracted travel and medical services providers and union officials. • Advise vessel Captains of Union and MLL crewing process procedures and requirements. • Cognizant of personnel actions on subject vessels. • Corresponding with the applicable union to ensure assigned mariners meet all employment prerequisites. • Supports commitment to safety and other selected company standards and certifications. • Review, monitor, and record mariner evaluations; recommend and draft punitive action letters as necessary. • Exercise best judgement overseeing repatriation, medical, and training costs for assigned vessels . • Performs other position related duties as specified by management. • Support commitment to cadet and Unlicensed Apprentice (UA) sailing opportunities. Travel Requirements: Low/Medium We are looking for Education/Experience o Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, International Logistics, or Management preferred; several years’ experience in the maritime industry or military, or five years equivalent experience required. Technical Skills and Competencies Required • U.S. Citizenship • Excellent organizational skills, able to work without supervision and on multiple tasks simultaneously • Computer literate with experience in MS office suite products and database programs • Prefer knowledge of merchant mariners and industry You must be authorized to work for any employer in the US.
