Production Supervisor / Metal Finishing Masking Supervisor

Location: Elk Grove Village, IL 


Position Overview

The Metal Finishing Masking Supervisor is directly responsible for overseeing all aspects of masking parts in support of the Metal Finishing Department as well as maintaining production throughput in accordance with customer established on time delivery and quality expectations.


Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • SAFETY:   Ensure employees have a safe working environment and are always trained on safety measures and the proper use of tools.   Ensure everyone always wears the appropriate PPE.  Provide a culture of safety so employees are actively working to maintain an accident-free environment.  Safety includes physical and psychological safety. 
  • QUALITY:   Maintain the highest level of quality in the team’s work by ensuring work instructions and directions are up to date, that work coming in and going out of the department meets or exceeds customer specifications. Ensure all ISO, AS9100 and Nadcap procedures are followed. Identify non conformances and work to eliminate reasons for poor quality.   Quality of work is always MIL’s first priority.  
  • DELIVERY:   Monitor and coach to meet or exceed department KPIs.  When outcomes are not achieved, work with the team to determine root cause and deploy appropriate action to remedies.  Assess and schedule jobs based on priority.  Report KPI progress on a regular basis. 
  • COST:   Manage overtime in a way that supports the business with the goal of improving on time delivery to 95% while managing the expense of overtime.  Use supplies efficiently. Work to develop more efficient processing methodologies. Work with the Estimating department to provide feedback on processing times.
  • PEOPLE:   Provide training and support to teammates – both permanent and temporary by ensuring they are properly and timely trained on jobs so each worker can be successful every day.  This includes developing and providing training and support to new hires, coaching to those who have performance deficiencies and providing a culture of continuous improvement.  Provide cross training so that during absences or spikes in business, people can fluctuate in different roles.  Conduct interviews, recommend hires and terminations, conduct performance reviews and issue discipline when appropriate. 
  • CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT:  Develop and implement standard work instructions and procedures so that all team members use the same processes, tools and come to work sharing the mindset of looking at how we do work and supporting improvements.  Use 5S methodologies in the department so each workstation is fully supplied and standardized.  Improve own skills by participating in training.  
  • SYSTEM TOOLS:   Utilize Bluestreak and ADP as a power user to record and approve data transactions for the team.  Process completed jobs and counts, time spent working on jobs, time off requests, and other required approvals. Utilize the plotter and associated software to ensure accuracy for plotted masking as required.
  • COMMUNICATION:  Keep department informed about KPI performance.  Collaborate with various departments to troubleshoot and obtain clarification on open orders or problem solve as needed. 
  • SPECIAL PROJECTS AS ASSIGNED:  Support the Coatings Department with various projects and initiatives.


Requirements

 Education and Experience Required:

  • ITAR compliant.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree or some coursework preferred.
  • 2 years previous supervision experience with hourly and temporary work forces required.
  • 5 years’ experience in masking or related processes.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • LANGUAGE:  Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English in order to interpret quality standards, blueprints and work instructions.  Must be fluent in speaking Spanish to communicate with team and provide clear direction.

Must have an intermediate understanding of Coatings processes in regard to their relationship of masking requirements. Ability to utilize Microsoft Office, Bluestreak and ADP systems with intention of becoming a power user on each.  

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing for prolonged periods of time on cement.  Standing/Walking 60% of the time.  
  • Working in areas that are not environmentally controlled 15% of the time.    
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
