Performs minor food and drink preparation, as well as overall cashiering duties all the while maintaining positive guest relations with the patrons of the Café as well as their co-workers. Maintains overall dining room, Coffee House and Food Court cleanliness. Provides clerical assistance to the Food Service Director on a variety of projects within the Food Service Department.
The essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Answer phones, take orders, prepare food for orders
- Stocking and cleaning all areas in dining room, food court and kitchen; sweeping; mopping; vacuuming; working the order taker area over supper rush; closing kitchen cleaning duties-salad bar, grill work surfaces; processing invoices; preparing counter menus
- Sitting or standing while completing transactions; balancing register; running close of day report
- Accurately operates cash register following established procedures for cash verification and accountability.
- Correctly and completely follows cash verification procedures from beginning through ending of shift.
- Correctly and accurately makes change for customers without relying on the cash register.
- Effectively reads order tickets and observes food on guest tray(s) to quickly process order(s) and insure good customer flow.
- Effectively makes eye contact with guests and anticipates customer preferences in an attempt to establish and maintain good guest relations and encourage return visits through customer satisfaction.
- Politely assists patrons with tray handling and giving directions through Food Court.
- Functions as hostess for the Fulton Street Café providing refills, cleaning tables, and maintaining the overall appearance of the dining room.
- Effectively and cooperatively works with the other cashiers as well as the “kitchen” staff to serve all patients, patrons to the Café, and visitors to the Conference Center.
- Accurately logs, codes and records daily invoices for the entire department.
- Accurately and in a professional style publishes the daily entrée specials for a week at a time.
- Along with the dept Coordinator effectively and continually monitors to ensure that nutritional information for self-serve items (dessert case and grab-and-go areas) are available to patrons of the Cafe.
- Cleans food preparation equipment, steam tables and work areas.
- Consistently completes at least two tasks per week from the positional cleaning list.
- Maintains safe operation of equipment in work area and reports maintenance issues appropriately.
- Correctly sells change to register operators.
- Accurately and consistently verifies the monies in the safe.
- When scheduled, accurately counts and records inventory amounts for items in the Food Court area.
- Scrapes, rinses, scrubs, loads, unloads, stacks dishes, washes dishes and pots and pans by hand
- Sweep and mop dish and pan rooms as needed but at least daily; de-lime dish machine weekly, clean work area daily; complete 2 in-depth cleaning tasks each week
- Gathering all items needed for special functions (dishes, utensil, glassware, condiments, etc); setting the room up and/or breaking the room down from special functions; putting away pots, pans, dishes
- Stocking all areas in dining room, food court and coffee house; making drinks; baking; sweeping; mopping; assisting guests; rotating pop; inventory; ordering; filling dept. requisitions; track temperatures; vacuuming; customer service
- Sitting or standing while completing transactions; balancing register
- Lifting cases of stock; putting away individual items; breaking down boxes; rotating stock
- Cleaning out deep fryers; filling fryers; sweeping and mopping underneath and behind deep fryers, floor mats and walk-in cooler and freezer
- Using automatic slicer to slice deli meats; package meat into smaller packs; proper storage
- Tracking temperatures of frozen and refrigerated foods as they are unloaded; checking in inventory; labeling and dating food items; transferring items out of corrugated cardboard
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions; ensures compliance with Joint Commission and other external and internal regulatory agencies.
- Maintains the integrity of confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policy, including accessing, using and disclosing patient information relevant to the individual employee’s job duties. Also maintains confidentiality of other customer and hospital business affairs.
- Adheres to the standards of Magruder Hospital’s corporate compliance policies and seeks guidance and training when necessary to resolve questions about the policies. Reports violations in accordance with corporate compliance and organizational standards.

- Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Preferred:
- Previous POS system experience-minimum 6 months is preferred
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel and Publisher is preferred
- Previous food service experience-minimum 1 year is preferred. Formal education in food service would fulfill this requirement
- Communication skills-experience and training
- Customer service skills
- Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team-experience and training
