Overview
At Mahaska Health A Cardicactric CMA is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, but may not give medical advice without collaboration with the provider. Also directs and guides patient teaching, and provides assistance to the physician/nurse practitioner/physician assistant in all aspects, while maintaining standards of professional nursing in accordance with the established methods and procedures of Mahaska Health Partnership and the Medical Group.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions include but are not limited to:
- All duties will be performed per scope of practice and cardiology policy.
- Assesses and documents physical, psychological, and social dimensions of patients at clinic.
- Establishes treatment priorities based on medical and nursing diagnosis.
- Documents nursing intervention and patient response.
- Prepares for and assists with office procedures.
- Accurately prepares and administers medications as directed by provider.
- Documents and reports adverse effects of medications.
- Properly documents immunizations, medications.
- Performs procedures such as (but not limited to) injections, immunizations, phlebotomy, tympanograms, EKGs, vision screening, etc
- Makes referrals to other providers and facilities as directed by provider.
- Prioritize and return phone calls effectively and in a timely manner.
- Reports test results to patients with instructions from provider in a timely manner.
- Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Use the Electronic Medical Record system according to established guidelines.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Employee/Occupational Health Specific:
- Performs pre-employment and worker’s compensation testing as outlined by established protocol and communicates with employer on these issues.
- Performs UA dips, TB testing, drug screens and audiograms as needed.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Allergy/Pulmonary Specific:
- Performs immunotherapy mixing.
- Performs immunotherapy administration.
- Performs allergy testing.
IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Monitors, records dates/outdates in sample medication closet.
- Responsible for keeping exam rooms cleaned and stocked, replenishing supplies and meds as indicated.
- Provides patient and family education at their level of understanding.
- Makes referrals to other providers and facilities as directed by provider.
- Organizes work-load effectively to accomplish patient care in a timely manner.
- Conduct self in accordance with Mahaska Health Partnership’s confidentiality policy and follow all MHP training guidelines in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
- Maintain a cooperative working relationship with employees, visitors, medical staff, and patients, keeping in mind the person’s unique needs within their age category (refer to Mahaska Health Partnership’s Age Specific Standards of Care Policy).
- Attend required in-service programs and staff meetings.
- All other duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
Requirements include but are not limited to:
- Experience with cardiac patients preferred.
- Required to be current in BLS (Basic Life Support) by the standards of the American Heart Association. (NRP and PALS are strongly recommended for pediatric nurses.)
- Required to show proof of having completed Mandatory Reporter Course at the time of hire or attend within 6 months of start date.
- Must adhere to all training requirements as mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards.
ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS- CMA:
- A graduate from an accredited medical assistant program and currently certified as a Medical Assistant in the state of Iowa.
