What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cook position at Main Salvation Army?
OVERVIEW:
The Cook will prepare meals for various Corps programs as well as oversee the kitchen and dining room areas.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure Kitchen is cleaned and sanitized at the end of each workday
- Cook nutritious and well-balanced meals
- Comply will all food safety standards
- Prepare and cook meals for special programs and committees.
- Meal Prep & Menu Planning
- Ensure food is stored safely in appropriate containers. Follow a cleanings schedule for kitchen equipment
- Ensure equipment is operating properly and report any service issues immediately to Corps Officers
- Careful screening and creative preparation of donated food
- Assist in the successful completion of Christmas fundraising and family assistance goals
- Provide advice and insight to the COs, as needed, for the successful completion of the Red Kettle Campaign
- Other related duties as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working in a kitchen (Preferred)
- CA Food Handlers Card (Food Manager Certification Preferred)
- Bilingual in Spanish (Preferred)
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to work with limited or no supervision
- Ability to work with other staff members and volunteers is a must
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to interact with volunteers and the public in a positive manner
- Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances
- Detailed in work and cleaning
- Ability to multi-task and set priorities
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Team player
- Goal-oriented and self-motivated
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
