STATUS:                  Part Time - 25 Hours per week

1. BASIC PURPOSE

The Lead Lifeguard will supervise and monitor activities in the aquatic areas. They may be on the stand or on deck during their shift and will be responsible to observe and aid swimmers, prevent accidents, protect life and enforce regulations as well as control access to pools, cabanas and lockers.  Position is also required to assist with general facility maintenance and perform other maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned.  Attendance at all in-service trainings required.

1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
2. Give supervision to aquatic support staff, including instructors and lifeguards as assigned. Hands on lifeguarding and assisting other aquatic instructional programs may be necessary.
3. Considerately and patiently enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors, and employees.  Caution swimmers regarding unsafe areas and actions.  Maintain order in swimming areas.
4. Will give oversight to the day-to-day operations of the aquatic programs and facilities, to include special events and swim lessons, with the Aquatics Manager and Events Lead.
5. Will develop and implement a Lifeguard Instructor program and assist in training and instruction of recommended TSA Aquatic staff for Instructor-level Certifications.  This training will lend to, but not be limited to, their ability to train and teach other lifeguards and TSA staff.
6. Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action; maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any signs of danger.
7. Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
8. Provide first aid, rescue breathing and CPR when needed.
9. Maintain and review records and reports as assigned.
10. May work with any aspect of aquatics programs.
11. Inspect and supervise staff cleaning and maintenance of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other areas as assigned, as well as performing cleaning as needed.
12. Able to interpret chemical analysis of pool water for any dangers.
13. Provide great customer service to the community; see that all customers, clients, and members are given prompt and courteous service.
14. Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
15. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and customers in person and over the phone.
16. See that Liability injuries are reported timely and according to procedure.
17. Maintain a safe working environment.  Report all harmful problems with facilities to the Facilities & Operations Director.
18. Must wear standard apparel as prescribed by the Aquatics Manager and always exhibit a professional appearance while on duty.
19. Other aquatic assignments as required.

1. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Education Requirements

1. Minimum High School Diploma or GED Equivalency

Certification Required

1. Lifeguard training (must include Standard First Aid).  American Red Cross certifications are required before start of employment.
2. American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Lifeguard.
3. American Red Cross Oxygen Administration certification.
4. American Red Cross Lifeguard Management or ability to obtain within six months.
5. American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or ability to obtain within six months.

Skills

1. Must be at least 18 years of age. 
2. Must have at least two years of experience as a lifeguard.
3. One-year prior experience as a head lifeguard highly desirable.
4. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
5. Must also have effective communication skills and engage positively with the public.
6. Must be able to work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts.
7. Experience working with the public.
8. Demonstrate the ability to relate positively and energetically with staff, clients, members, and customers. Ability to be self-motivated, work independently and in a team environment. 
9. Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as TSA.
10. Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of the Center and TSA.
11. Able to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling, and education.

1. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Position requires proficient swimming ability and endurance.  Must perform the proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques. 
2. This position requires the ability to properly extract victims from the pool(s) to the deck, and ability to lift and carry at least 40 lbs., sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, jog, pull, push, balance, reach and ability to use fingers and hands.  Position may require operating equipment such as computer keyboard and standard office equipment.
3. Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of all aquatic’s areas.
