Details: Starting Rate: up to 27.95/hr., DOE. Normal hours of work are 8:30am - 4:30pm. Hours of work will flex due to requirement to attend, at a minimum, 1 evening meeting per month. During those weeks that evening meetings occur, the work hours for the week will be adjusted by the same number of hours spent at the evening meeting.

Job Summary
The Assistant Planner position is a highly responsible position implementing the planning and zoning processes of the Town. Individual provides administrative and technical support, as required and directed, to the Community Development Director and Planning & Zoning Administrator in overseeing the overall land use planning and development objectives of the Community Development Department. Individual works under the general direction of the Planning & Zoning Administrator, performing work in accordance with standard practices and previous training. Instructions for new assignments or special projects usually consist of statements of desired objectives, deadlines and priorities.
The Assistant Planner assists with organization and oversight for the successful implementation of the Department’s internal policies and procedures relating to the support of the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and other land use boards as necessary. All work is performed in conjunction with other staff and under the general supervision of the Planning & Zoning Administrator and Community Development Director. The Assistant Planner must be comfortable working with persons representing a wide variety of disciplines and must appreciate their various perspectives. Clientele include attorneys, engineers, developers, commercial entrepreneurs, homeowners, and lessees. Perspectives include those of the landowners/ users to abutters and affected neighbors, local elected/ appointed officials, other municipal department heads and their staff, state and federal officials, and representatives of private/ special interest groups. The normal hours of work during the work week are expected to include at least one evening meeting per month.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: The successful candidate for this position should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Urban, Regional, or Community Planning; or a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (such as geography, public administration, or other similar field) with two (2) years of progressively responsible experience as a planner in a municipality, regional commission, or state agency; or an equivalent combination of education and experience deemed sufficient by the hiring managers to be compatible with the requirements of the position.
