What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grant Writer position at MaineHealth - Corporate?
- This is a professional position that engages in an array of responsibilities related to grantwriting for the MaineHealth system, including the identification of strategic priorities and potential funding sources and linking priorities and funders to MaineHealth members and affiliates; developing and maintaining relationships with funders; providing technical assistance to MaineHealth staff, members and affiliates related to all phases of concept and proposal development, such as identification of strategic partners, drafting and editing concept papers, development of complex budgets and budget justifications, oversight of the proposal production process; writing a wide variety of proposals, contracts, and cooperative agreements, and overall leadership of the proposal writing process. This individual works collaboratively with MaineHealth staff, members and affiliates to identify, prioritize, and secure support from foundations, federal and state governments, and others, as well as external partners as designated by members and affiliates.
- Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field (journalism, English, etc.), master’s degree in a related field preferred
- At least five years' progressive experience in grant writing in a health or health-related field, with demonstrated ability to secure large grants and/or contracts (over $100,000) from varied sources
- Knowledge of health care, health systems, and contemporary issues and trends in the field.
- Knowledge of health care information resources, data bases, and methods of accessing and using such resources.
- Knowledge of funders at the state and national levels, including foundations and government sources and demonstrated abilities to prepare submissions to these sources.
- Knowledge of all aspects of the proposal development, writing, and production process.
- Knowledge of budgeting and cost allocation methodologies for research and non-research projects.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals and groups.
- Ability to lead proposal development and production process.
- Ability to develop or facilitate the development of the conceptual framework for a proposal.
- Ability to create and maintain a user-friendly database of resources that can be used to identify potential sources of funding.
- Ability to prepare complex budgets including multiyear projects that have multiple funding sources, subcontracts, consultant agreements, and other components.
- Ability to use online submission systems and processes such as grants.gov.
- Ability to plan and execute training sessions for diverse audiences on all aspects of grant writing.
