Summary
For a limited time MaineHealth is offering a $10,000 Sign on bonus for all eligible Registered Nurses with up to 2 years of RN experience and $20,000 for Registered Nurses with greater than 2 years of RN work experience!
- Eligible candidates are hired (offer accepted) into a Full or Part time RN position. Bonus amount prorated for Part time hires, per diem hires are ineligible.

The Palliative Care RN is an integral member of the Palliative Care Interdisciplinary Team, which delivers patient- and family-centered care to individuals living with serious illness. The goal of palliative care is to maximize quality of life and align the individuals medical care with what matters most to them.
Key responsibilities of the Palliative Care RN include coordinating care, conducting comprehensive symptom assessments, promoting understanding of disease processes and treatment options, facilitating family meetings and goal-setting discussions, facilitating inpatient referrals and team communications, triaging patient phone calls, completing ambulatory care chart prep, medication reconciliation, authorizations and refill requests, rooming patients, overseeing Medical Assistants, and engaging in effective interdisciplinary team collaboration.
This position is based primarily in the outpatient/ambulatory Palliative Care clinic in Scarborough, with some shifts worked at the Palliative Care department at Maine Medical Center and occasional patient care conducted at MaineHealth specialty practices as part of the departments outreach efforts.
This is a full-time, 40-hour position during the Monday-Friday workweek, with a standard schedule of 4-10 hour shifts.

Under the direction of physicians, this position is responsible for assisting with total patient care by performing clinical duties, responding to patient telephone inquiries, and coordinating care both at the office and at outside facilities. An Ambulatory Care RN II is the competent nurse who has at least one year of professional nursing experience in acute or ambulatory care.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Education: Completion of nursing training from an accredited school of nursing.

License/Certifications: Active State of Maine Nursing License or eligible for licensure. BSN preferred. Current BLS required.

Experience: Minimum one year nursing experience required.

Knowledge of nursing processes; health care systems, structure and functions; and community resources.

Knowledge of chart/medical record documentation requirements and federal/state laws related to release of health care information.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors and other staff.

Skill in time management, problem solving, multitasking, prioritizing and medical care coordination.

Ability to read and interpret physicians orders and notes from other providers.

Ability to calculate and administer drug dosages and injections and measure results.

Ability to organize and accomplish multiple tasks and to have the flexibility to meet changing demands on a daily basis.

In accordance with the Ambulatory Care Nursing Advancement Program, a RN II who meets or exceeds all of the criteria and requirements at the 12 month performance evaluation date may apply for RN III designation.
