PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assist Director of Maintenance & Facilities to direct and maintain physical school plant in an
operating excellence. Provide students with a physical learning environment that is safe, clean,
attractive, and functional.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor of Science Degree from accredited college in mechanical or electrical engineering required
Engineer-In-Training Certificate/Professional Engineer license preferred
Construction supervision experience preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of basic principles of construction and design Ability to read and interpret blueprints
and schematics
Ability to coordinate district function and to manage personnel Experience in AutoCAD or Rivet
program
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills American with Disability Act
compliance knowledge
Experience:
Three years of supervisory experience in construction or maintenance operations required Three
years experience in large construction projects preferred.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Building Maintenance and Repair
• Receive and process work orders for repair and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
• Assist in developing and maintaining departmental procedures for maintenance, repair, operation,
and security of all district buildings, and equipment.
• Assists in preparing plans and specifications for contracted repair work and site improvement
for submission to purchasing department for bids
• Provide overall supervision of all electricians and air conditioning personnel.
• Maintain records of refrigerants required by the Environmental Protection Agency
• Develop a district wide energy management plan.
• Maintain all life safety and fire protection equipment including inspections and
repairs.
• Maintain all security systems district wide to ensure alarms are fully functional.
• Maintain all intercom systems district wide to ensure intercoms are operational.
• Maintain all camera systems district wide to ensure cameras are operational.
• Procure capital outlay equipment to update life safety, security, intercom, and camera
systems.
• Integrate pest management supervision.
Policy, Reports, and Law
• Ensure the district facilities comply with ADA regulations.
• Implement federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in
maintenance area.
Prepare necessary data to process maintenance payroll.
Budget and Inventory
• Compile budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
• Plan inventory and stock control program for equipment and supplies.
• Replace and maintain a current inventory of supplies and parts to avoid delay when
reordering.
Personnel Management
• Assign work to maintenance personnel and oversee completion.
• Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
• Train and supervise maintenance personnel and make sound recommendations about personnel
placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal.
Safety
• Maintain safety standards in conformance with federal, state, and insurance
regulations.
• Ensure that equipment is maintained in operating and optimum condition
Other
• Perform disaster duty when needed.
• Respond to after hour emergencies as needed.
• Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervise and evaluate performance of electrical, plumbing, HVAC and support staff assigned to
maintenance department.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
• Working inside and outside, working in extreme weather conditions, working after hours when the
work demands; frequent district-wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; work indoors
and outdoors to conduct on-site inspections of all maintenance facilities and construction projects.
