What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maitre D position at Maison Premiere?
The James Beard Award winning bar in Williamsburg, Maison Premiere, is currently hiring an experienced and charismatic Maitre D to join our expanding team.
We are looking for candidates with a genuine appreciation for the hospitality business, a professional work ethic.
Maitre D position must have polished appearance and a poised and welcoming demeanor are essential.
Candidates must have a sincere desire to make guests feel at home and a non-stop drive to deliver outstanding service. Fine dining experience is preferred with great communication skills is required.
A keen interest in craft cocktails, absinthe, wine, oysters, and seafood, plus an eagerness to learn more are important. We are looking for candidates that will passionately embody our brand, vision, and high level of hospitality, and act as ambassadors to our food and beverage programs.
The work is fast paced and offers a great opportunity to expand your knowledge of seafood and cocktails.

Essential Duties:
Maître D and Host
• Ensure that all guests are quickly and politely greeted upon arrival
• Monitor all waiting times and minimize guests waiting in the lounge
• Supervise the seating plan so that guests are seated in a way that recognizes their importance to the restaurant
• Make sure that phones are answered quickly and politely without any sign of hurriedness
• Ensure that prepaids, birthdays, anniversaries, and allergies are communicated to appropriate staff member
• Maintain an active participation in the dining room
• Delegate specific tasks, such as straightening up the restrooms
• Be aware of any guests at the drink rails and ensure that excellent service is provided to them as well
Maximizing Reservations
• Ensure that seating plan is arranged so it maximizes revenue without overloading the kitchen
• Implement strategies to resolve any high or low demand periods by opening up or restricting availability
• Make sure all reservations are confirmed
• Maintain waiting lists
• Check reservation log to ensure that proper procedures are consistently followed
Recognition of VIP and critics
• Make staff aware of special needs and VIP guests, as well as the need for discounts and comps
• Get to know important guests
• Increase mailing list
• Follow the media (especially restaurant press) and keep up-to-date with cultural and social events in the city
• Address any problems that arise dealing with reservations and the front desk department
• Inform management of VIP reservations on a daily basis
Training
• Teach necessary employees proper language to employ in specific situations
• Greet guests when they arrive and thanking them when they leave
• Telephone answering
• Taking reservations
• Train employees to follow proper reservations and front desk procedures
Communication
• Communicate to staff about any VIP guests and arrangements to be made for them
• Collect input from staff concerning any issues that need to be addressed
• Maintain a daily log book that includes any important incidents, complaints, or messages for the next shift
• React to dissatisfied guests, taking appropriate action
• Communicate with the Managers
Supervisory
• Supervise front desk/reservationist staff
Competencies & Qualifications:
• 2 years of service experience in a high-volume or fine dining environment
• Proficiency in Resy and Toast
• Pleasant demeanor
• Positive and clear written and oral communication skills
• Ability to engage guests successfully, build a relationship, and create a warm and welcoming environment
• Impeccable grooming as defined by management and dress code
