What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian/Janitor position at Maize USD 266?
Custodians play an important part in maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe environment assuring the proper operation of all facilities.
A Day in the Life
- Assists with opening the building in order for students and staff to begin the school day, for example, unlock doors, raise flag, pick up trash, turn on lights, etc.
- Helps maintain cleanliness of the building including washing windows, picking up trash, cleaning bathrooms and drinking fountains, mopping floors when necessary.
- Repairs building and equipment as assigned to assure equipment is operational for students and staff.
- Sets up and replace equipment as needed for daily activities such as lunch, as well as special activities such as evening programs.
- Provides crossing guard duties in order to ensure students, parents, and staff are able to cross the street safely.
- Helps receive deliveries and dispenses of the equipment/supplies/furniture in their appropriate places.
- Assists with closing the building in order to ensure the building is secure and utility costs are minimized.
- Maintains confidentiality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state and federal laws.
- Performs other duties as assigned in order to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe environment.
- Assists with special projects such as putting together new furniture, painting walls, completing repairs, and doing major repairs, during summer months and at times when school is not in session.
- Moves furniture, equipment, and supplies for the purpose of re-locating classroom.
- Supervises students, as needed, in order to ensure their safety.
Profile of a Successful Candidate
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of standard cleaning chemicals is helpful.
- Has a high school diploma
- Is able to fulfill physical job duties of requiring 90% walking and 10% standing. Time is spent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality as required by the Board of Education policies and regulations.
- Must be regularly available and willing to work 40 hours per week, or such other hours as the district determines are necessary or desired.
- Must have a cleared background check and current TB skin test.
