Since 2015, we have been introducing high-end, luxurious ice cream with unique flavors like Rose with Cinnamon Roasted Almonds, Masala Chai, Orange Fennel and Sweet Roti & Ghee. We hold our business to the highest standards in every aspect from sourcing only the best ingredients to producing top quality products. Our products are currently available at our brick and mortar shop in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, and in many grocery stores across the Northeast, Chicago, and online marketplaces. THE ROLE: ASSISTANT STORE MANAGER
The Assistant Store Manager will oversee all aspects of day-to-day operations for our ice cream shop, including assisting the General Manager with anticipating demand, supporting and developing team members, ensuring a positive customer experience, and maintaining high morale. The Assistant Store Manager will also help with resolving equipment repairs, organization, inventory, social media, and purchasing. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in the food and beverage industry, a passion for people development, and strong project management and operational abilities.
What you’ll do:
- Help to manage day-to-day operations with the General Manager, including overseeing the store team, maintaining DOH standards, creating the weekly schedule, performing regular maintenance of equipment, and overseeing inventory and purchasing.
- With the GM, execute a plan for increasing sales at Malai’s NYC operations
- Coach, develop, and train team members, helping address areas for growth and fostering high-potential talent at every level, understanding that the company’s highest standards be represented at every junction and every point of sale.
- With the GM, help to cultivate an inclusive culture and positive work environment for all team members.
- With the GM, helping to develop systems and resources such as opening and closing checklists, supply pars, etc. that will contribute to the overall efficiency and organization of the shop
- Collaborate with the team leads to ensure that weekly and monthly sales goals are met; collaborate with team leads to merchandise products for maximum sales
- Model superior customer service, providing a warm and welcoming environment for every customer that walks into our shop.
What we’re looking for:
- 1-2 years of prior supervisory experience in a food/beverage or retail environment
- NYC Food Protection Certificate required.
- Passion for what you do – you love both the people and business sides of the food industry and are great at thinking through both challenges and opportunities in either area.
- Adaptability and flexibility – you recognize that in the food industry, anything can – and will – happen and you’re able to calmly troubleshoot issues.
- Eye for detail – you understand how to break down larger goals into day-to-day action and are inherently meticulous and strategic.

Compensation:
- We are looking for someone to come on board for 30-35 hours per week, starting on an hourly basis, with room to grow. Starting pay for this position will be $19/ hour.
