Hospice Patient and Administrative Volunteer

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Volunteer Coordinator or designee, the volunteer provides their own time to support and assist patients, families and Hospice staff .

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Successfully completes Volunteer Training/Orientation Program.

2. Performs volunteer duties in accordance with Hospice policies, procedures, and professional and community standards, state and federal regulations. 

3. Adheres to the Hospice’s Code of Conduct and Compliance Program requirements.  

Patient Care Volunteers:

1. Offer visits to patients and families to provide support services, such as shopping, companionship, assistance with meals, gardening, phone calls, etc.

2. Completes errands for patients and families as appropriate. 

3. Participates in bereavement activities after completion of appropriate bereavement specific training. 

4. Follows a designated assignment to meet needs of patients and families. 

5. Documents visits according to Hospice policy and procedures. 

6. Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy. 

7. Follows all Hospice policies and procedures as appropriate. 

8. Communicates with Volunteer Coordinator or designee as necessary to report changes or needs of the patients and families. 

Administrative Volunteers:

1. Assists in the office functions and office duties as appropriate.

2. Supports the Bereavement Program by assisting the Bereavement Coordinator with the mailings and other clerical duties.
