Our brand was launched in New York City in 1993 out of Malia’s apartment where she sewed by day and moonlighted at a restaurant at night. Our home base is New York City where we have our studio, atelier and our flagship store in Soho. We also have stores in Marin, Montecito and Los Angeles as well as a seasonal store in Bridgehampton.
Our stores are dynamic spaces and our one-on-one fit and styling sessions are where we make connections and swap stories. The role of our Marin store manager is an active, on the floor, entrepreneurial position that runs the store from A-Z. This includes but is not limited to:
- nurturing impactful relationships with customers and teammates near and far
- one-on-one fit and styling sessions
- team building, onboarding, coaching, mentoring
- operational excellence including troubleshooting our POS system, computers, internet etc.
- inventory management as well as shipping and receiving merchandise
- visual merchandising
- planning and hosting events and trunk shows in our store and other locations in the bay area
The role also includes building lasting and inspiring relationships with our neighbors in the Mart, our Marin community, the Bay Area and beyond. It's a nuanced, proactive role that resonates beyond the walls of our stores with opportunities to travel.
At Malia Mills we don't have multiple layers of management. Everyone on our team wears many hats to contribute, learn, grow. There is a lot of overlap with our sales associates but at the end of the day our store manager thrives on bringing out the best in others and takes ownership of growing a beautifully run business.

The Marin Country Mart is a dynamic community and a really lovely place to spend time. Starting rate is $24 per hour for a first-time manager and the hourly base rate goes up to $35 per hour based on experience with leadership and coaching, team building and management, sales volume and business development, operations, hospitality, event planning, community building and more. Our benefits include health insurance, paid vacation, IRA contribution, bonus program and more.
