POSITION: Process Operator, Samples
REPORTS TO: Sample Services Supervisor
GENERAL SCOPE:
The Process Operator, Samples prepares and blends/compounds batch formulations of liquid and powder ingredients. Organizes and helps to maintain inventory in various systems. This position operates equipment used to produce flavors. The position interacts with quality R&D flavor creation teams, R&D applications teams, sample department team and other internal departments as needed. Key competencies: Analytical Skills, Communication and Interpersonal Skills, Mathematical Skills including Weights and Conversions, and Computer Skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Independently Spray Dry’s and Compounds flavors accurately according to formula sheet.
- Completes assigned projects and internal requests within the designated timeframe. Notifies management of any expected delays, issues, etc., in a timely manner.
- Retrieve, stage, accurately weigh and document ingredients used in spray dry batches. Ability to safely handle and transfer chemicals used in dry batches in a lab environment.
- Retrieve, stage, accurately weigh and document ingredients used in liquid batches. Ability to safely handle and transfer chemicals used in liquid batches in a lab environment.
- Thoroughly clean, sanitize and organize workspace(s) and shared facility areas as directed to maintain and efficient and high-quality manufacturing operation and environment.
- Maintain strict adherence to equipment SOPs, GMP standards, food & flavor regulations, and documentation requirements.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including use of engineering controls and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure a safe workplace for all employees.
- Ability to safely handle a wide variety of flavor compounds and chemicals in daily work while abiding by General Laboratory Health and Safety Requirements. Which states: “Nearly all chemicals and activities employing chemicals have the potential to be hazardous. In all circumstances, materials must be handled with the assumption that they are hazardous. A hazardous chemical is one which is generally classified as posing a health and/or physical hazard.”
- Able to adapt to odorous raw materials and finished goods with varying degrees of intensity and odors.
- Leads general up-keep, maintenance and stocking of the Flavor Laboratory, e.g., lab cleanliness, raw material and flavor sample archival and inventory management.
- Periodic purging of materials and chemicals following safe lab practices and waste disposal requirements and training.
- Maintain stock of raw materials and supply items necessary for the department to function properly.
- Full understanding of Mane project processes to move projects forward
- Other duties as assigned by management.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. B.S. degree preferred.
- Minimum of one year in a flavor / food industry preferred with experience in food preparation and/or flavor research and development

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, stoop, bend for duration of work hours
