Qualifications
- Elementary (K6) Teaching and (K8) Reading Endorsement required.
- Must possess a comprehensive understanding of the science of reading, reading intervention programs and strategies to support struggling readers in a collaborative team approach.
- Must possess a comprehensive understanding of intervention programs and strategies to support students and teachers in reading instruction to meet individualized goals in support of achieving grade level state standards of learning.
- Must be able to serve as a literacy resource for the school site by modeling and coaching to provide exemplary strategies for teaching reading.
- Must demonstrate the ability to plan, model, and deliver current research based best practices and interventions
- Must be knowledgeable in reading instruction and be able to assess student responsiveness to those interventions through observation and analysis of assessment data.
- Plans instructional activities for students, demonstrating knowledge of subject matter and using state Standards of Learning and the curriculum of the district
- Uses current school and student data to plan instruction
- Develops formative and summative tests, using multiple tools to assess student learning on an ongoing basis, and adjusts instruction to meet group and individual needs
- Maintains order within the classroom and school with proactive classroom management and a well organized learning environment
- Maintains records of student performance and attendance, and communicates this effectively with students and their parents
- Selects, requests, and uses a variety of instructional materials to stimulate learning and meet the needs of all students
- Communicates and coordinates instruction with other staff relative to student learning
- Stays abreast of current educational trends and best practices as these relate to classroom instruction and effective schools
- Maintains professionalism when interacting with students, parents, patrons, community agencies and colleagues.
- Incorporates and models appropriate use of technology to support instruction and student learning.
- Performs other duties as assigned
