Assistant Principal – Marblehead Veterans Middle School
General Summary
Position is responsible for assisting the school principal in the planning, organization, administration, and management of Veteran’s Middle School. Position assists with supervising staff, creating a safe environment, monitoring curriculum, budget development, and other duties associated with the successful operation of a middle school. This position reports directly to the principal of the Middle School.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General:
Assists in the scheduling of the teachers and students.
Works closely with the guidance department to monitor, update, and evaluate 504 plans.
Assists in the yearly evaluation and publication of the Student Handbook.
Takes a leadership role in the administrative use of the data management system, Aspen.
Assists in the scheduling and organization of all standardized testing.
Curriculum:
Provide curriculum leadership for Middle School departments.
Acts as a liaison to district-level curriculum committees, as assigned by the Principal.
Assists in the development, and the leadership, of a school-wide data team.
Participates in the delivery of appropriate staff development to support the mission of the school and the continued professional growth of the faculty and staff.
Community Relations:
Keeps the community informed of school programs on a regular basis and actively participates in the School Advisory Council and other school community groups.
Establishes, maintains, and nurtures effective working relationships with parents, community stakeholders, and outside agencies.
Student Welfare and Attendance:
Manage student attendance and discipline under the school rules, school committee policies, and State Laws and Regulations.
Coordinates school crisis team.
Provides appropriate campus supervision.
Personnel:
Assists in the recruitment, training, utilization, and evaluation of paraprofessionals.
Observes, provides feedback and guidance, and evaluates teaching and support staff; under direction from the Principal.
Student Activities:
Attends various school and student events as the school administrator.
Assists in the management of spirit activities and use of the advisory program
Professional Obligations:
Takes initiative to perform such other functions as may be necessary to implement the philosophy of Middle School education for all students, faculty, staff, and parents.
Carries out such additional responsibilities and duties as designated by the Principal.
Finance:
Assists in the development of the annual budget, and helps facilitate an understanding of it for staff, parents, administration, and school committee.
Assists in the accurate implementation of the yearly school budget.
Maintenance and Operations:
Coordinates with the Lead Custodian, Facilities Director, and Executive Director of Technology and Operations to assist in proper maintenance and care of buildings.
