We have been retained by our rapidly growing real estate development firm to lead the search efforts for a Director of Development. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial in nature – interested in the inter-workings of the business, have strong critical thinking and attention to detail. In addition to being part of an innovative, growing company; the position itself has growth potential. Candidates must have a proven track record of success as a leader in the real estate development industry.
Summary
The Director of Development will provide the necessary leadership for the daily operations and activities of the development team.
Pre-Development
- Analyze potential projects by running development strategy meetings, coordinating market studies on potential sites, and reviewing financials models that are delivered by the finance team.
- Ensure all necessary due diligence is budgeted for and completed in a timely manner to support project entitlements and development.
Development
- Procure and manage design team from concept through construction close out
- Successfully complete all necessary design due diligence, legal efforts, and community development actions to gain entitlements and incentives for projects
- Complete all necessary efforts needed to secure permits allowing the timely construction of projects
Construction
- Oversee the schedule, performance, budgets, and completion of construction by CM team to ensure delivery meets performance projections and quality levels represented to investors
Other
- Develop and maintain strong company relationships with key stakeholders through networking, industry events, and community involvement
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business or construction management from accredited institution
- 7 years of experience in real estate development
- Experience with mixed use development including residential, commercial, industrial, retail, etc.
- Professional interaction with team members, stakeholders, government officials, and staff.
- Able to meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to manage projects and people at a high level
- Entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to problem solve with creative “outside the box” solutions.
